the rear shock on the xr 250 is really soft.not sure why. theres a cannister at the side of the shock with a twist knob. Theres also a couple of arrows with the words hard and soft written next to them. I get the impression that twisting the knob simply adjusts the hardness of the suspension. but this knob wont budge... any ideas?

It'll probably be compression damping.

If it feels " a bit soft"

Whack up the pre-load. That's the rings on the shock body itsself.

The damping will just affect how quickly it compresses.

To stop it bottoming out you'll need:

More pre-load

New shock(If you're is royaly fooked)

It will be in your haynes somewhere.......it's basic thing.

Basically there will be an adjuster on the shock under or above the spring. Get a C spanner on it and tighten it up.

hmm I checked the manual a couple of times and couldnt find it. can i get at it without removing the shock?I really dont wanna replace the shock if possible.tightening the adjuster will harden the suspension then?
