I was on ebay just scouting around. Looking at two bikes I would loooove to have but dont think i can realistically afford either. The yamaha R6 in Black and the kawasaki zx6R in Green (the newer model).
Also been looking at bandits, hornets etc but was hoping you guys could broaden my horizon a bit.
Cheers.

sv650s is a great bike once you get use to the front end diving down at any oppurtunity.

And only 4k brand new.

Hornet 6 ftw.

It's an awesome machine. Taught me so much after my 400.

You'll get murdered in insurance for a sports 600, Hornet's are group 12 instead of group 14/15.

Still bad insurance on a hornet 600 for a 17 year old.

I paid 480 at 18, it was the same group as my 400, so it would only be around 500, better than a sports 600, 800+ mostly.

Confused I ride an SV and don't have any issues with 'the front end diving down at any opportunity'.

I got a quote of 800 odd with 1 years no claim! Live in a rural area as well...

I guess I wasn't really shopping around though.

I got a quote of £99,999 for an RSV mille, doesn't mean I'm going to take it out. Laughing

A GPZ500s makes a good first 'big bike'. Plenty of them out there, reasonably priced, not too much to insure and you'll take on an SV650 on all but the longest of straights.

are u restricted to 33bhp? If so, I've heard its best to avoid the sports bikes. I think, because the sports bikes have most of their power at the top end of the revs (because theyr inline 4s) they dont particularly do well with restriction.however bandits have a similar, but slightly down tuned, engine and theyr great for restriction (mate of mine has one)

I passed my A2 a few months ago and I've been on my xr 250 which is great fun after my 125. Its a good fun bike that should last me until I get my next bike which I plan to be an sv650.theyr popular bikes to restrict.

if its not a sports bike you want in particular then have you considered the "commuter" style 500s? ER500,CB500 and GS500? and the slightly sportier gpz500

just a few ideas.hope its helped

ZZR600 is about the cheapest fully faired 'sports 600' as far as insurance goes. Heavy old bike compared to an R6 or Gixxer though. Really depends on how you intend to use the bike as to if its a sensible option or not.

Honda 400's. A few of people on here have them in their different models(mainly NC29), not too bad on insurance either I don't think.

sportsbikes - tt600, thundercat

or if you tend to ride in town more, a big single trail bike
i havnt tried these much, but i think they could be good

im thinking of getting a ccm 604 myself, or the gpz500 already mentioned

the power of a sportsbike is useful on the open road, but you dont really use it in town

Trail bike around town? Make sure you get at least TPFT. Commuter best for town, or sportsbike. More fun out of town.
