At the moment my bike is being kept in my brothers garage as I am living in Germany at the moment so have no need for the bike until March next year.
When I get back to the UK I am going to be sorting out my fiancee's garden. This is going to include laying a driveway, which got me thinking... I will be wanting to keep my bike at my fiancee's house but it doesn't have a garage so when I lay the driveway I have decided that I am going to fit some security measures to it. (And I dont mean lasers and pressure plates lol) I have plans to lay 2 ground anchors into the concrete for the bike, and I am even thinking of laying 1 to chain the car to whenever I go away for a weekend or longer. (Better to be safe then sorry)
So I am wondering what the best ground anchors on the market are? I want atleast 1 Thatcham approved 1 for the bike for insurance purposes, for the other 2 would I be best off manufacturing some or are the approved ones of much higher quality?
Please share your opinions and experiences?

The best defence is a chain that wont fit into the jaws of a bolt cropper, simple as that really, even most £150 chains wont withstand a cropper used properly.

Another one is a gravel drive, thieves hate them, they will wait for a windy night to attempt something on a gravel drive.

If the bike is the kind that's more likely to be stolen for parts you might want to consider some kind of smart water or data tags, it can make things very awkward when a stolen bike is traceable back to them.

that chain i posted up wont be cropped, its been showed that most of the others get cropped in under a min, where this one bends the jaws only marking the chain slightly. and data tagging is great too if they catch the theif in time.

How about HISS/Smartwater/Datatag/Datatool Alarm/Datatool Immob/Chain/Ground anchor.

Very Happy

It can still be hacksawed easily if it's not hardened correctly.

Or fix the cdi so it can be removed when you leave the bike, at least you know its not being ridden away (but bear in mind they usually aren't, they get taken to back always where they attempt to make it go, first thing they do is rip the fusebox cover off, thats why mine is having razor blades fixed in on the underside)

edit:

Actually the best security device I've seen up to now is a small lock that fits to your tyres, if its pulled off without unlocking it deflates your tyres, and i can tell you its fucking hard to move a bike with deflated tyres.
Inconvenient if its triggered but not as inconvenient as months with no bike and arguing with cunty insurance company's. (i'd personally get it moved though so it wasn't retuned to with a van)

Its all down to ho your dealing with, chavs are usually discouraged with a chain, disc lock or similar, i use a grip lock and its excellent, no pro is going anywhere near a cx so its all that's needed, i can promise you if a professional thief wants it they will take it.

thats good source of dna. in effect if they want it they'll take it, so any alarm or chain will just put the petty ones off but not the pros. the almax chains are pritty thick and are hardend very well to prevent cropping but then what about if they freeze dry the chain and locks? even if you have an alarm, they'll rip everything off to get to it an smash it or cut it out, then move onto hot wiring it etc they know how to do all that stuff.

Looking quite a promising set as a main anchor and chain.
The bike already has Datatag and a Datatool alarm/immob. I like the idea of gravel to put them off... It got me thinking... I might put a 1ft wall around the bike and keep a ramp inside the house aswell as fitting a very squeeky gate lol.
I think the important thing is to fit deterrants, if a thief wants it bad enough they will eventually get it.

Thanks for the advice... There are loads of handy things to think about there.

I might get onto photoshop and start to design the best possible security package I can lol... Then invite some thieves to have a go for an ITV programme or something. Lol.
I can see me spending more on security then the bike is worth. Laughing

No such thing as a chain that can't be cropped. How do you think they cut it into 2m lengths?

£450 gets you a hand-pumped hydraulic shear. Alternatively, you steal one because after all, you're a theif.

That's what was used on the chain of the last bike I had nicked. It'll cut 1 1/8" rebar.

The point I was trying to make is if someone really wants to have your bike away, it'll go and there is nothing you can do about it.

At best you can deterr the casual thief. For this purpose, chaining it down to something solid is probably the best bet.

I recall someone on here had a brand new bike (either an R6 or a CBR6). Hadn't even ridden it. They had it chained down to two ground anchors in a locked garage. They came out to find the small back window removed from the garage. The frame and back wheel of the bike were chained to the ground surrounded by a litter of fastners. Someone had broken in, stripped the thing and passed the bits out of the garage window.
