Who would win in a race between a good rider on a fast bike, and a driver of equal ability in a similarly fast car, around the twisties?

A dispute has come up on another forum - I think the car would be faster as it has more wheels and therefore more grip.

Am I wrong? Well am I? Mr. Green

A bike can take a tighter line everywhere, but it is easier to get near the limit in a car withouth crashing.

Look for the Lambo vs Ducati I think it is that fifth gear did.

Hi

Which ever one was the luckiest would win.

Difference in performance is nothing compared to the difference to be made by either rider / driver has no care about surviving.

All the best

How do we quantify a similarly fast car? Same acceleration? If so you're looking at a supercar versus a 600 or so.

In that case, the car will piss all over the bike.

The simple truth is that bikes accellerate much harder than cars, but cannot generate as much cornering force.

I wish people would recognise this, and put this age old 'debate' to bed.

(I'm not having a go at you mr junky)

If you watch the stu-pid riding video the evo catches up in the tight bends but looses it the bike on the straights.

Granted the biker didn't look to skilled.

In my opinion its who ever gets the better start and the lead first cause you can just block the car once your infront.

Depends on the speed you're going - ie standing start or rolling at speed, etc.

In the past it's been shown that a bike can corner at a similar kinda pace to most road cars. However, it generally takes a lot more guts from the rider to do so.

Where the car has the advantage is braking late into corners and getting on the power early.

However, the bike should be able to go one direction to the other much quicker than a bike, but as with everything else, most riders probably won't take advantage of this.

A car like a Subaru or similar would generally piss it. They have to much grip and a rider has to risk a lot more for the same cornering. A bike will be quicker on fast corners, but on a tight twisting roads the car would win.

Yeah in all the car vs bike videos I've seen: TopGear, 5thGear etc... basically end the same way bike beaten by 2/3 seconds. Bike can't brake as hard and in general has less grip, however they're usually comparing an affordable bike vs an unaffordable car. If you want to experience super car peformance without the super car price tag you buy a bike.

Top gear did a challenge on this and the bike lost although clarckson is very biased against bikes and there was a lot of arguments that could be raised.

Fith gear did the same and this time the bike came out on top but that was because of the faster acceleration on the straights and once in front of the car the bike blocked the cars path on the corners.

On the corners the car has far supperior breaking so would beat the bike there.

I think what they should have done is put each vehicle on seperately and tested times that way.

id say a £500 bike vs a £500 car, the bike would win

i suspect that with a £7000 bike against a £7000 car, the bike would win, but it would depend on the course

in the real world, with traffic, its much easier to overtake on a bike, which is what makes bikes much faster from A to B really

id agree tho that a lot is going to be down to the people doing the driving or riding
