Hi folks, ok, gotta 2001 fuel injected blade, was thinking about sticking a k&n air filter in it, is it worth it, or just stick to a standard?

Is there any power difference? Smoother throttle response?

Just i could get a slightly used one(k&n) for £20.

Thanks,
Baz.

Make a wee bit of difference, but only with other tuning work, i.e. can/full system + PCIII.

It depends...on some bikes they can cost a HP or two (the SP1/2 are far better on standard filters, even after dynoing).

I have them on mine..the main thing is that they are reusable after a was and re-oil.

Well mines running at 152hp, not too fussed about getting any more! Shocked

But smoother running of the bike etc, not sure if i would have to change anything ie(add a PCIII), already got harris race can, which is good enough.........or other tweaking.

I mean, if it will change anything to run smoother or better,(without changing anything) suppose its worth getting one instead of an oem one.

It'll run leaner I suspect if you were to fit a free-er flowing air filter. You'd get smoother running just by getting the fuelling done to suit your can with or without the K&N, but the K&N itself probably won't make it run a great deal better.

I'm considering getting a k&n air filter or similar for my 1999 CBR600fx because it can get pretty dusty on the roads I ride on.

I remember reading somewhere that you have to get the carbs adjusted if you change air filters. Is this true or am I remembering half a story? Many thanks

Fitting any high flow filter will make the engine run leaner and may cause problems. Better safe than sorry to get it checked or at the least do a plug chop as soon as it is fitted.

Used to put them on bike and car but it is just more induction noise unless you do more to the engine.

I asked this question recently.

Basically from what i was told and read up, fitting a different exhaust or air filter, will upset the carburation.

You may need to adjust the pilot screw for a smoother tick over and low throttle, adjust the jet needle for a smoother mid and get bigger jets, all to richen the mixture.

Other wise it will run lean.

Its pretty easy to do, read this site, all you need to know about carburetor setting. Carb 101

RTFQ.....Its fuel injected....the ECU will take care of things, if the changes are with in the parameters it can handle. If not it will need re mapping.

The main advantage of a K&N is that you buy one and it stays with the bike for life, if you intend to keep the bike for a number of years this will be worth doing. Also the flow remains constant for longer, or should I say they have to get more cruded up before the flow drops off. Yes they will give a better flow and if you are doing lots of tuning work you'll want one.
