anyone here bought/sold a personalised registration plate?
if so, where did you buy/sell it from?
and are registrations transferable between cars and bikes?

thanks

I've bought a few. Try the DVLA, most are £250 (Which includes your transfer fee and VAT)

Clicky

You can swap them between cars and bikes easily as long as it doesn't make the vehicle appear newer than it is (I.e you cant put a plate starting with an 'S' on a '96 vehicle)

You will have to listen to them rambling on about the £1000 fine (Which I've never heard has actually been dished out!) that mis-spacing or mis-representing it will incur.

Happy Hunting! Thumbs Up

I was thinking more along the lines of buying other peoples old reg plates.I've found a couple of websites advetising these.

I'm sure there isnt a problem with (using your example) putting an S plate on a 96 model. otherwise drivers would be extremely limited to what they could buy.

Trust me, you can't put a plate with a letter which is designated to a later year than the vehicle that you want to assign it to.

DVLA Website wrote:

Are there any restrictions to the year of registration number I can choose?
You can make your vehicle look as old as you wish but you can not make it look newer than it actually is i.e. You cannot put a Y registration number on a T registered vehicle but you could choose any prefix from an A to a T.

This is so that people don't put say ... a V plate on a 1997 vehicle in order to sell it for more than it's worth (Even though the year is clearly stated on V5)

If you want to buy a plate from another vehicle then you can, but remember to budget for the DoT fee (Which is £80 I think ATM)

ahh right I understand.thats fair enough. I thought you meant that, for example, if the bike is a 2000 model then it has to have a Y reg plate.but it can be older.thats good as my bike registration which I'm thinking of selling is a C reg so plenty of interest. thanks

The only one I'm interested in getting would be:

AN02 ZZR

As the bike is an '02 ZZR 600. Wink

Shame it's not available...
