I hit a patch of diesel in brixton, and the bike went down. Walking pace drop, but it still knocked the forks out of alignment, bent the bars, snapped the clutch lever, smashed an indicator.
I didn't have breakdown cover, and the best quote I was getting was 80 quid from green flag. They said they'd be an hour.
45 minutes later and they call again, saying they'll be 90 minutes. Its now getting dark, I'm in brixton, and I'm cold.
So I did the only honourable thing and rode home. 20 miles through south London, at rush hour, with no clutch.
I did a fair few impromtu wheelies, span the back up more than once, and nearly died many times.
But I made it home. The clutch now has a Honda lever for the time being, and the indicator is bodged with sainsburys carrier bag and gaffer tape.
Anyone know how tough the gearbox is on the cagiva 500 single? I think I may have just put 20k worth of wear onto it. |

When my clutch cable went on my RS125, I rode it it clutchless to work. The box was fine.
One piece of advice though to anyone who has to do it, pull of in second not first, the little wheelie I did must have looked awesome but it scared the crap out of me! (I'd only had A bike about 2 weeks! I wasn't very good ) ____________________ NC30 + Bandit 6

One thing it will have tought you is how to read the road ahead, so you have to stop as few times as possible.
Mine went going to work, had to ride through Leeds at peak time and back again. You get some weird looks when you lurch away under the starter, but thats all.
Think you are more likely to fook the starter than the gearbox. Time the changed right with throttle and they are as smooth as silk, no matter which way you are going. ____________________ Just because my bike was A DIVVY, does not mean i am...... |

I've rode an RS250 with no clutch cable for about 15 miles, Going through 2 towns
When you see a red light you have to slow down to as slow as possible, and use all the road! |

After a morning of phoning round for parts, i'm quite surprised.
No garage wants to know, they tell me to call 3 cross.
So I call 3 cross, and they quote some prices, and say they don't have any stock, so they'll have to order it in from Italy.
Ok, I say. When will you get the parts in.
Well, he says, I if put the order through today, probably about mid November.
Useful importer there.
So I call mito mondo. Parts are in stock, and should be with me tomorrow. For the parts where he doesn't have the exact bit, he can supply something else that can do do the job.
Biggup to Rob at mito mondo. Well I say at mito mondo, but really he is mito mondo. |

I've driven a car home with no clutch once (well, it had a clutch, but the cable was broken).
It's amazing how quickly you pick it up when you're miles from anywhere
Gearchanges are easy, it's just stopping and starting that's the nerve-wracking bit. |

Never done it on a bike, Once in the mini the bleed nipple on the slave cylinder came loose and I lost all the clutch fluid meaning No clutch.
I think having a fucked clutch anyway made it easier because it was slipping at the best of times. |
