Honda BROS 650

Looking at getting a BROS 650 as a good all round bike. I would love a sports type bike but I currently ride a hack CX500 and speed everywhere on it Laughing

. Bikes are also slightly more expensive over here in NZ.

What's a good price (in GBP) for a a good condition BROS 650 from a dealer with a couple of extras on (tail rack, GIVI screen, Supertrapp exhaust) owned by a "lady" with about 20,000 miles on it?

What services will it need doing/checking soon. Camchain, valves etc?

The bros is a great bike, nath has one (had it for years) the engine is the same as the transalp engine more or less, but is a fiddly fecker to work on I'm afraid, it has a fuel pump and other things imo it doesn't need..

If this is anything like the ta i had the lack of power was surprising, but that could be the tyre sizes.

To be totally honest i'd look at a bandit 600 if there as common as over here, or a cb500, just something simple if your not throwing money about.

Or keep the cx, the speedos are horrificly off (all mine have been) 30 is 25, 40 is really 30, 80 is closer to 70.. so your probably not really speeding anyway Laughing

CX runs ok but badly needs the carbs cleaning and balancing, apart from that not too bad, doesnt idle at all lol.

I just want something with a chain and that doesnt feel like the titanic as I'm only a little fella. Could get a sports bike but as I discussed witha friend who rides with me last night I speed on the CX, a big sports bike is an even worse idea!

So anyone got any useful info on the BROS regarding what goes wrong on them, what are the service intervals etc as well?

I've got the 400 and I am happy with it. They're renowned for their reliability, though I picked one up which unfortunatly had lots of service items fail all at the same time Laughing

Now I have sorted it I'm very happy with the way it rides, I did 700 miles on it over the weekend with a fair bit of luggage and it did everything I asked of it.

As for the fuel pump which was mentioned, mine died. However you can easily bypass it at the roadside and you still get around 90 miles to a tank. I don't know how common it is for them to break.

I've never properly ridden any bikes apart from my bros and NSR125 so I can't make much of a conclusion as to how it handles compared to other machinery. It feels very agile and if needed you can muscle it about, i'm only a little fella as well. It handles shite surfaces with ease and I always feel confident on it. If I ever feel like I am pushing it a bit too much I just use the rear brake which steadies the bike perfectly. The front brake on mine isn't fantastic but I reckon it needs a bit of attention.

It is a bit bland at times though the 650 is going to have more umph. I was looking at 500cc commuters at first before I bought it, but the BROS just feels like a much better machine.

Sickpup is a bit of a expert on the BROS, annabelle? (sp) and carvell own one, might be worth pestering Smile

Bandit 600's are'nt that common over here and there are very few parallel twin 500cc bikes, otherwise I'd get another GPZ500.

Thanks very much mr jamez. Appears it will do all I want from it. Anybody know how much a new fuel pump is?

dunno but any japanese car fuel pump thats 12v (so all of them) should work, "propper" ones will cost an arm and a leg..

allthough naths packed up and i'm sure he manages without (he also has manages without a battery and starter motor and has for the last year or two) you should pm him and ask Thumbs Up
