 |
|
On the ride yesterday I was noticing a lot of places where 30/40 limits had obviously been extended, presumably for the rich people living in the large houses just outside the villages, for whom it might be dangerous to pull out of their driveways onto a national speed limit or walk along the road.
What I also noticed is that pretty much everyone of them had a large hedge row or fence, meaning there was very poor visibility for anyone pulling out of the drives and you’d have to walk on the road as there was little verge.
If these village-campaigners were really as worried about safety as they often claim, would they not ensure good visibility and a safe place to walk with their own land?
My solution? Get rich and do the same thing, to annoy all the plebs . |

We have one road round here where they have slapped a 40 limit on for 3 miles of a great bit of road which could be ridden at 50+ without touching the brakes on any of the corners.
Why heaven knows why, i can understand where houses are, but 90% of it is country lane stuff......
This is one of the roads where the challenge is to ride/drive without using the brakes, not all out speed. ____________________ Just because my bike was A DIVVY, does not mean i am...... |

Blue, get yourself a serviceable 4 stroke single trailbike, lets say a Kwak KLR250 and fit a Supertrapp end can, she'll soon stop moaning about speeding bikes in fact she will then probably want you to go faster and get away from her stables as quickly as possible. The Supertrapp on my old KLR made an odd sound that animals dont like no matter the speed ____________________ Simson S51 Enduro, Kawasaki AR80, Yamaha RD125LC, Yamaha XV535, Yamaha XJ600N, Suzuki GS1100G, Kawasaki KLR250, Yamaha BT1100 Bulldog (4/4/08 Deceased). I'm not entirely certain but I believe there are certain regulations with regard to the provision of street lighting in 30 and 40 limits. I also believe there is supposed to be a footway (one side of the road for a 40 limit, both sides for a 30 limit).
I bet there is neither. You might want to look into this then draw their attention to it.
See how the homeowners like it when the council compulsory purchases six feet off the end of their garden to build a pavement and errects a streetlight outside their bedroom window. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. I've noticed too that a fair amount of national speed limit roads around where I live are steadily turning into 50mph limits too. I am talking about big wide country lanes that don't have a lot of traffic on them at all, but for some reason they are doing away with the national speed limit. ____________________ Yamaha YZF-R6 |

Hi
The rules on 30 limits with lighting are just there so they don't have to bother putting repeater signs up (indeed, with regular street lighting the repeaters are disallowed).
There used to be fairly strict guidelines for setting speed limits as it was recognised that setting a limit too low would cause accidents (hence the 85th percentile speed). These are now ignored.
All the best

I was under the impression that local councils got more funding for road maintenence if they have a higher portion of lower speed limit roads... could this just be a sneaky way of the council obtaining more funding? ____________________ Avast! Pirates ahoy!

Just noticed another belter comming outand into Leeds (A659 i think). Towards the ring road. It used to change to 40 just before/after a sort of roundabout, now they have moved it approx 200 yds further on. It is now just at a roundabout junction.... Right where most drivers will not see it due to it being 4 lanes and the fact all eyes are on the roundabout ir the exit....
I only noticed as i wondered where the signs had gone, took me 4 trips to spot them in their new location.....
Just waiting for the speed cams to go up now.... Will be a real payday when they do as i bet most will still think its 40.. ____________________ Just because my bike was A DIVVY, does not mean i am...... |
