I work in london and travel on the A13 from Rainham to london 5 days a week in very heavy traffic. When it opens up to a 3 lane road there is still generally very slow moving traffic, what I want to know is how come the majority of 'inexperianced' of riders L plates, chavs, scooters etc. will pull aside to let faster riders filter past them but sportsbikes and cruisers will not move out of the way for love nor money. I am a fairly fast filter through london traffic, not the fastest but I'm quicker than 80% of people out there. I get so angry when I'm stuck behind another bike, if I see someone in my mirrors whilst filtering I pull into a lane and let them pass, If they have caught me up the must be faster than me, I let them go. I'm fed up of stupid Power Rangers not letting me past when they filter at half the speed I want to. I had one today on a Gixer 6, kept looking in his mirrors and whacking the power on expecting to lose my restricted bandit but no he wasn't going anywhere I still kept up with him, and he still wouldn't let me past. I often pull over in between the 1st and 2nd lanes and go down there if I'm stuck behind a persistance offender (or I'm late).

Basically if your filtering in london and there is a bike on your arse that has been for any time let them past, what do you have to lose?

[/rant]

P.s. Lots of respect to the hot looking girl on the cb250 that completely out filtered me Laughing

Because their bike cost more than yours.

Don't worry about it, you've probably got a bigger cock.

I think its funny when bikes wait in the queue for the traffic lights with the cars, if their is enough space get to the front! As for filtering i like the middle age men you get on peds who think their faster then my zxr through town Very Happy ! And the gyes on big sports tourers who try it at the lights...... Twisted Evil!

I have also noticed all the nutters in london ride KTMs with straight through pipes. I love the bike taxis some battle harden ancient rider on a white pan with a really scared looking bloke in a suit and a lid, I saw one with the same type off horn a a fire engine Thumbs Up I love riding up london, on the way home it seems like every traffic light is a GP start Laughing I want my S4 back, the Akra can was so good at scaring pedestrians, the stock bandit one doesn't cut it Evil or Very Mad .

Its that i'm in front and your behind.... La La mode. Same as the i'm not letting you out mob, despite the fact you will filter passed them anyway and not hold them up.

Like you say if someone is faster than you where is the problem with letting them passed. Better to have them infront than rear ending you.....

You'll get used to ignoring them and going around. You'll never convince them they are being discourteous, so just ignore them.

no matter how fast you are theres alwasy someone whos faster

no matter how fast you are theres always someone who thinks theyre faster

i have the same problem.. i bought an er5 becasue most of my commute includes filtering arounfd the manchester area and its easier to slip through smaller gaps.. still get idiots in the way..

oh and the same van every day that tries to block me..

depends an IL4 is a tad bit wider than a twin or a single, I am very good fast filtering on the NTV , less so on the CBR namely as the CBR is wider, has expensive fairings to damage AND I can't get both feet on the ground either.

I do not feel confident enough to filter *all* the way to the front... usually leave about 3 cars infront of me...

If there is another biker behind me, that is being held up, i will generally try to make an effort to make their lives easier, by giving them space to filter / overtake.

I also moved to the side and waved some chick on a red SV650s past me at a staggered junction on the A4114 last sunday at about 5~6pm... Some guy on a dark fzr600 overtook me, i think she was riding with him. I managed to keep up with them though!! Well, until a long straight, they must have got close to the ton, i was plodding along at about 85 (yes yes, *indicated* 85) poor baby won't go anyfaster.

I remember riding along into Stow-on-Wold with some guy on a little monkey bike thing following me closely... Must have been tuned up, was a dirty great airfilter sticking out the side, and it sounded like an angry tractor. Overtook me doing about 80, and then preceded to slow down to about 65 and not let me overtake him... what a cock jockey... Once we got into Stow i "pwnt" him with my "mad skillz". Laughing

Theres two sides to this story though.... Smile

I get many more problems with Wayne Rainey wannabes on their 125's and scooters cutting in front me, and by me giving way to them, I miss my safe opportunity to filter and have to now wait - or impatient think-they-own-the-filter-lane types who get all hoyty when the moment there is anyone in front of them.

I keep aware of who is around me. If I dont think I have an opportunity to filter safely - I get out of the lane. But if I'm just waiting for a gap that is about to appear, then I dont think its unreasonable for other riders who have more balls/less brains to wait the 5-10s for me to do so. I'll soon let them past...

Thats just my observation on London filtering...

I find it can be a bit of follow the leader. I've been snagged in traffic many times and found a biker behind that's been following me so moved in to let them pass only to find that they dawdle about unsure of themselves. Turns out that they like to follow; not lead. Rolling Eyes

All the more reason to NOT want them behind you in my opinion.

I very rarely filter if I have my daughter on the back, if on my own I will if there is plenty of room.
My favorite if on my way to work on a morning the traffic guaranteed to be backed up for about a mile every day from one set of lights at the bypass back up to a roundabout as traffic comes in off the motorway, I just nip on down the side all the way to the lights, PERFECT
When in the car I take the back road instead that runs parallel to the main one just got to many sharp blind bends which alot of car drivers take on the wrong side so would rather be in the car when they hit than the bike lol
