What are your opinions on this lid? ie noise, ventilation, weird clicker thing! I bought an AGV lid today and ended up taking it back for a refund (phew) the strap was utter dog shit and something I only discovered when I was riding. it was way too loose even fully adjusted, Double D ftw. Shame really as I got it for £70, horrific paint scheme but it was cheaper than a plain one by £20 Smile

I just don't want to go and buy an expensive lid only to find it has annoying niggles, then get told to do one when I take it back! I've tried said lid on and it fits nicely.

Fogs up badly, but the pinlock works very well to counteract.

The original Raid was a better fit for me, but both are good.

It's a bit loud, but I'm willing to accept that for the fit of the shoei. Only really a problem on motorways.

Ive been using one for a year and a half now. Build quality and comfort is excellent. Its a good job it comes with a pinlock insert as standard, as it would be unusable otherwise. Noise at speeds might be problematic, but I use earplugs, so it isn't really an issue for me. I use a balaclava underneath the helmet, so I cant comment on the propensity to attract dirt and raise a stink. I never use the the visor locking lever. It gets a big Thumbs Up from me. Definitely better than most of the competition at its price range. Check how it fits you though before shelling out the cash.

Sounds reet Thumbs Up I'm yet to try on some shark or roof helmets but so far the shoei is my favourite even if it is £70 out of my budget Confused

I love mine, had it for over a year and there has been no problems. I find it a really good fit.

Done me fine, including my recent crash which saw my rolling on my head at high speed.

In the end, I can't really see how someone could do damage to a helmet and not leave marks that were obvious.
Ok, it's possible they could have completely repainted it to look original. But as we've seen the cost in time and money of that probably far outweighs the sale price on ebay.

Fair enough.

And if you're trackdaying often, then you can't be shelling out £250 everytime you take a tumble!

Good point.

I never buy second hand you dont know how old it is or where it has been.I am picky when it comes to helmets come to think of it to most biking things,I like the raid to a point you have to alter the pinlock so that it comes up to the top of the visor so if you are riding with your body in sports style, you can still see good otherwise double vison if you dont alter it..The helmet has noise from the bottom of the lid and it is hell if you do not wear ear plugs (a skirt is available as a sound absorbing effect) vents work well and are easy with gloves on,also is the visor lock and 10mm opening of the visor while town riding.Other than this it is a good helmet but as I said to a point but better than most Btw hein gerick have xlite ones half price from £170 down to £99 well not exactly half price but close lol.Ride mag tester said it was a good helmet pluch lining and good visor pinlock better than shoei

Indeed Mark, I've actually been quite good at keeping helmets off the floor, but think I've mashed three, maybe four now - not always hit them hard, but enough that they can't be used for racing again at least.

For the record, if you want to know how old it is, I believe it's usually on the chin strap and on stickers inside the helmet too. Worth looking at this in shops too. Just because it's in a shop doesn't mean it's several years old.
I "don't know where it's been", but then I occasionally eat 'fast food' and I have a good idea where the hands of the people preparing it have been, yet still eat it Smile.

I'm not keen on the idea of a second hand lid, I mean Wave proved that you can drop them and not leave a mark Shifty Also what about it moulding to someone elses head? I've got a £200 overdraft available tommorow so I'm not worried about money as much now Smile

Besides it will be nice to have something with a new smell rather than someone elses ming Smile

I race in a second hand Raid off ebay too Smile
It seems a lot of people buy them (Shoei Raids in particular for some reason) for their OH and they don't get used much. Fortunately I have a small head!
I don't fancy shelling out £300 a time for a helmet every time I crash.
Having said that, I've had 5 offs in my current one, including one at 100mph+, and not a mark on it . . . .

Good point G thanks for reminding everyone about this inside of the strap incl me hehe but I was thinking more or if you bought a helmet from mail order off of e-bay or something you cannot tell how old the helmet is until it gets to you. Also could the helmet have been left in the sun or whereever as to much heat can damage the outter shell no? and I dont mean sun as in 5 mins of sun but say like in a shop window etc.
