Hello everybody, how are we today?

Guys, i just wanted to know if anybody here has recently purchased Test Drive Unlimited for the PC and how well it rates against games of a similar calibre. There's 125 or so vehicles to chose from including bikes, but from what i heard, the handing is totally unrealistic for the bikes.

Anyway, the link to the game is HERE

Should be a ball, but i need to know how good the game is before forking out 30 quid on it. I could torrent it, but sometimes the source files are wank and corrupt and i think you need an offical version to download the "car packs".

I played the beta version and thought it was great, the amount of roads to drive is mind boggling.

The only thing i was disappointed in was the lack of bikes but meh lol.

Im hoping to get it as soon as i have some spare cash Thumbs Up

It's been out ages on 360. It's not bad, but the bikes don't handle great from what I remember, the area you get to drive in, is massive though.

It’s very good if you like that sort of thing, and I do.
Racing against others is fun as it’s not just laps around a track.
You can tour round the island or race, doesn’t matter.

There is a lack of bikes, but it has the ZX10R, the 999R and the MV Augusta, TBH, that’s enough there. lol
The handling with the bikes is a bit mad at first, but like any racing game, when you get used to it, it’s loads of fun.
The cars look and feel brilliant, you get a real sense of effort put into the game once you get into it.

The 360 makes it looks amazing, especially with HD TV.

I can't afford a 360 NOR a HDTV, but i do have a Geforce 6800XT equipped PC - although the rest of my subsystem is 3 years old!

Still, i might be tempted to get it soon. So tempting, my 20th birthday in 2days. Should i get this or get a tarty 1 piece alpinestars suit, in RED.

I hear you can download additional bikes on this game though. I have a feeling it may be the next cult classic, not just a "lets be another take on need for speed" game.

You can get extra vehicles from online, but I don’t know about bikes.

I think the next one will be amazing, as we all know, the first titles on any console look crap later.

NFS has held the title as best racer IMO for a long time, NFS 1 is a classic. But since they went all out on the advertising and bad boy feel, the game seems to hit a younger market.
Test Drive could be the next best racer.
Track racing does have it’s limits.

The thing that's great about TDU is the fact that it's probably the only game that you'll want to play within the cockpit view, the sounds & visuals in the cars are fantastic & even better when the sound changes when you open/close the window. The handling i found was better then i expected from what i read.
The bikes are definately the best looking that i've seen from any game purely for the fact that the cockpit views again are very realistic, they sound great to at low revs.
The handling on bikes you'll get used to but it could do with improving.

After a while it did all seem to wear of & found myself driving for ages trying to find a race i hadn't done & in the end didn't really play it much.

Probably won't be the same on PC unless it's top spec. Very Happy

Absolutly shyte. Controllling is just pure utter crap unless you have the most forward veiw you can have,
I have a good G/card but it still takes some time.
Might take it back and exchange for another game, or get it for the Xbox.

Just re-installed this to see if I could try to get used to it.
Graphics are glitching - very slow, handling still a bit to sensitive.
Can I do something to the G/driver (Not in the game, as nothing worked)
Card is NVIDIA GeForce FX 5900XT

Other wise im just selling Thumbs Up

yep, as said that card is OLD.... im running SLI 6600GT's (means 2 x cards) the rest of my rig is powerful, cards are only thing that let it down TBH.....i still run this game on full settings on a high res

theres a patch out for this tho which is `spose` to help it but imo didnt see any gains as such.... also have you got a pad/wheel? i use a wheel & if the force feedback is on it'll lag like a bitch....thought the patch might sort this but nope!

PATCH!

(not inc tower,fans,PSU,etc)

Arrow Asus P5N32-E nForce 680i SLI (motherboard)
Arrow Pentium core 2 duo 6600 (CPU)
Arrow 6800GT X2 in SLI mode (GPU)
Arrow OCZ pc2-6400 platinum DDR2 (ram)
Arrow 250GB SATA II & 80GB HDD (hard drive)

The 7600GT is a good card at a reasonable price, Louise, and it comes in AGP, assuming that's the slot you've got. The GT part is important. Laughing

On Ebay.

As above, the 7600GT (From what i've seen) is the best card for the lowest price, i got mine for £50 on ebay & it runs games on max but the latest ones on med/high. Also depends on your other specs tho.
Now that i've had Test Drive on the 360, i wouldn't get it for the pc unless i had a top spec PC as it's the sort of game you need on max to really enjoy everything.

Have you thought about getting a new PC? You'd be surprised at how much your old one will probably go for & a decent system only costs around £250.

I didn't mean a top end, obviously Razz
Just a system that's decent that's custom built & better then alot of the home PCs you'd get from PC world etc.

2x 7600GT would be good. Cool

I'm gonna start building my own gaming PC soon, after clearing my debt and getting bored of the 360, the build sofar is gonna have
either 2x8800gts w/c and oc'd or one 8800ultra w/c and oc'd (and get another when the price is down)

I think I'm gonna wait for the 9 series and the (Proper) DX10 cards I have a budget of about £1400 Twisted Evil I can't wait.
