Best to learn how HTML goes together first - Dreamweaver is good if you know what the code it produces actually does.

I'd buy a good book on it. I got one from Wrox publishing, think it cost £15 or so a few years back. Smile

for basic HTML information and tutorials you should try this site:
https://www.good-tutorials.com/tutorials/html

Do you mind if i ask what the website is for? i have quite a bit of experience designing websites and might be interested in helping Very Happy bit of a hobby of mine. Also you might want to make the layout in photoshop and then just do some minimal coding Smile let me know drop me a PM or add me to msn leeves@izon.co.uk

well to make links, you use the code
Code:
<a href="http://www.somethingyouwantolinkto.com/">Your link trigger (of course it could be an image or whatever)</a>

the stuff in the less than and greater than signs are tags and pretty much all tags have to be opened and closed - so the second one has a slash before the tag name.

Should at least get you started mate!

My advice would be to use a template, or CMS.

CMSMS is good, and easy to setup.

I think you still have me on msn, so gimme a shout sometime.

https://www.w3schools.com/ - the best site for starting out, some good tutorials and examples to help you on your way...

Remember Dreamweaver is only a tool to write HTML, learn it first.

I know you said you didn't really want to pay for anything but....

I learnt how to use dreamweaver and write HTML when i was about 14 or something and i still have 2 books here somewhere that helped me.

One is something like 'Top 100 HTML codes or something' and the other book is purely based on Dreamweaver MX however i don't believe they have changed much over the years. They probably cost around £15 each in the day. £15 posted i reckon (they will be going in the forsale section soon anyway.

Anyway, another way i found is fairly easy is actually make your website with all the images text and stuff and then look in the HTML code on dreamweaver (ie it sort of writes it for you). Try and learn what it is doing by reading it. When your doing your next page, try and do it by just writing the HTML. Obviously some images will have to be inserted manually but thats another thing i did to help me.

Old Thread Alert!

The last post was made 18 years, 136 days ago. Instead of replying here, would creating a new thread be more useful?
