PostPosted: 14:54 - 29 Sep 2007    Post subject: Help with 'My Computer' please? Reply with quote

I decided today to sort out my files and folders so they are easier and have some things I want to change in My Computer:
A: I only use this as a usb floppy drive, how do I set it so the drive only appears when the floppy drive is inserted into a USB port?
E: I have 2 DVD drives, H: and I: so I have no idea where E: has come from? How can I check this isn't being used and delete it if it isn't?
F: G: J: K: and N: are from my built in card reader... How do I find out which type of card each reads so I can change the name of each? And also how do I set them up to only appear when a card is in them?
All help is welcomed, preferably in a dumbed down way so I understand?

If i was you, i would leave it as it is. Mucking it about can make alot of things break.. You may be able to change drive letters in Manager.. but..

My advice - Dont touch! Laughing

I meant I would change the description of the drives so instead of 'Removable disk' It would say 'SD Reader' etc.
I added the same picture twice. DOH!

I open windows explorer.
choose the drive from the left, right click, rename, that's how I renamed my card readers slots.

Not sure about having drive/readers only show up when media is in them but as for drive E is it possible you have something like alcohol120 installed and thats a virtual drive ?

As said you can simply rename your drives and I guess the easiest way to see which letter is which media type on your reader could easily stick a card in each slot and see which one comes up. Then rename it.

If you don't have media to fit each slot then do you really need to rename that one, because you obviously won't be using it.

Personally I wouldn't be too worried about it TBH.
Just use desktop short cuts for the items you usually link to and you won't need to worry about the other stuff because you wont see it by direct linking.

A driver disc came with that card reader. It's red in colour if that helps.

If you run the drivers it loads a bit of software that tells you which drive does what and if it has a card in it.

It didnt come with a disc as it was preinstalled. I will just have to put different cards in and see what comes up.
Anyone know how to check my dvd drive is a virtual drive?
