right, another customer has dropped a PC of as "it's running a bit slow"

rig it up, turn it on, straight to BIOS and overclock it by %20. I boot it to windows to find this.....

resolution set back down to 800x600 for no reason.

obviously her daughters PC judging by the "yoof" stuff, Muzak, Webcam Picz etc.

told her over and over to use FIREFOX and nothing else, check the firefox log and fuck all, not used once.

check the nod32 threat log and......... well, I give up....

I don't rob people, 20 quid for either a full disinfection and tune up or full format (backup up their pics etc.) Install Windows XP, register all their antivirus, MS Office, fully update XP and all apps etc.

I charge £30 for a full de-partion, re-partion, format, and install of the OS and all hardware drivers. Data backup is another £50.

Alternatively I supply a new hard-drive (or they can supply their own) and I'll install the OS on that and their data is left intact on the old hard-drive which is installed as a slave, for £30 (plus the cost of a new hard-drive if they don't supply their own).

I won't do dis-infection as it's never 100% effective. Once something has been into the OS there are usually system files left damaged, and no engineer I know of will address that for £30.

not worth fixing so it'll be a full format.

Uninstall internet explorer, then she can't use it. Put an ie icon on the desktop and point it at firefox.

I normally charge about £20 for backup, reinstall windows, restore backup files, install all drivers, vacuum out the case, install anti virus stuff.

Sometimes more depending on the distance I have to travel.

Reminds me of my girl's PC when we first started goin' out. Hilarious, N30. Rated as such.

I'm curious how many programs were running in task manager, though...

why not when youve reinstalled it all just lock down her account so she cant install shit like that again

btw 9k trojans is nothing, a while ago i went to a pc which actually crashed out of a virus scan at about 12000 viruses i think (wasnt that far through the scan), it actually killed the machine, power supply failed, it had been used for internet for a few years with no firewall or antivirus (they said it was a bit slow :-/ ) i just gave up and swapped out the hard drive and PSU for them free of charge and all was well
