Hi all,

I got myself a 06 ZX6-R Ninja on Saturday (For background it's only done 1800 miles and is spotless).

Anyway after a 50 or so mile ride last night (took the long way home) I was in the garage oiling the chain and generally admiring my new toy when the bike started to emit a rather loud whistle/high pitch hum (After years of watching Hollywood movies my first instinct was the bike was going to explode... a second later I went in search of where it was coming from.)

The noise was coming from the tank filler cap. I pushed the key cover flap down and the pitch changed. When I flicked the key cover up the sound stopped. I popped the fuel cap and it hissed as it opened. So it seems like there is a build up of negative pressure and I guess it's related to the tank breather hole?

Is it anything to be concerned about? The bike has not suffered fuelling issues during the 380 miles I've done over the past 3 days, but the noise didn't seem normal. Anyone got any advice?

Tim

It probably a pinched breather hose, what you can do is have under the bike for a few loose hoses and give them a little pull(not to hard, mine come out near the gear lever. If that does work take the tank off and have a look.

My bike has 4 hoses in the tank 1 fuel 1, sensor and 2 breathers, You should be about to tell which is which as the fuel looks sturdy and the sensor is a cable. What you do is then follow the path of the other 2 (if yours is same) and pull them through from undernieght as you lower the tank (get someone to help) to make sure they aren't stuck somewhere.

If that doesn't work they might be blocked so try taking them off and blowing down them to check.

It shouldn't be to big a problem although I have heard of a bike (TL1000R) denting it fuel tank because of the pressure.

It should be an easy fix and well worth doing IMO.
