Honda wont sell individual piston rings?? WTF??

has anyone else heard of this? My bike needs new piston rings, could do with a new piston but could last a bit longer without one, very small minor scratch in the barrel nothing to worry about!

garage rings honda to order piston rings, they say they will only sell barrel, piston and rings as a package for £180!! :O

i intend on selling the bike in less than 3 months for a 250 so will have to pour money into that so am a bit dubious of spending too much on my NSR

has anyone else had a similar encounter and what did you do about it?

You can buy the rings on their own. You can't buy the piston without the barrel from Honda. I have seen the microfiche from Honda and the rings are separate.

i know the garage is not trying to screw me over because hes a good mate of mine and on closer inspection of the barrel it seems some chrome has come off and there is a carck near the exhaust port so would be better off replacing the barrell and pistons so will have to fork out

ive had stuff from david silver before but they dint have any pistons to compair prices to

I have certainly bought rings from Honda in the past without buying a piston / barrel (although not on an NSR). Not selling the rings alone would be madness.

Think David Silver Spares do a very good deal on an NSR barrel with piston and rings.

If your replacing the rings, make sure to do the piston aswell anyway, common sense.

Aswell as parts mentioned, advised to buy a new small end bearing.

aha yes didnt spot the barrel and piston there

just ordered a barrel, piston, rings, and head and base gasket but they dont stock exhaust gaskets, small ends, geudgeon pins or geudeon circlips so will have to order those from honda or is there anywhere else i can get genuine parts from?
