Internet Problems, Getting annoyed now

Hey, just thought i would post on here see if anyone has any same problems or info!

Basically, My internet surfing is fine, but when i try to download anything its real slow, and my pings on games are really high? even for a english server.

Okay, i sent my mate a download, and hes on 56k!!he had the same KB/sec speed as i do and im on 4mb....
I recently reformatted, and installed the internet, it was high straight away, i dont know what the hell is doing on and im getting real stressed as the virgin media people are foreign and dont know shit!

I kicked it off, and it settled down at 23k a second. Quite pants for a 4mb line.

your on 4mb also? and u were getting 23 average?

Yup, started off about 50, dropped to 18 over about a minute, then crawled up to 23 and stayed there. 4mb Virgin (ex NTL) cable connection.

the server that file is hosted on must be under load as it goes from 5kb/sec up and down to 20+kb/sec.

try a file from www.windows.com to test against.

thx for replys guys, just tested another server, and the speed is faster now, must be alot of users connected or something.

Anyone explain why i got high pings in counter strike? i play battlefield 2142 as well, and i need a stable connection as im one of the highest ranked players in UK...i need a good connection with my clan n stuff and its just annoying tbh,

anyone got any tips how to tweak pings on counter strike?, steam..

when i tried that download i got speeds ranging from 84-150 thats with an 8mb talktalk connection

The problem is at the source, not your internet connection.

i'm using an optical connection and got the same results as you guys
