Save it as a .mpg not a .avi that should drop the size a great deal (as in make it a video CD type settings).

Try Windows media encoder 7 (free download... google for it or it's on the M$ site).

Lets you set the various settings for size and codecs etc etc.

I tried to do that but it would only let me save as an .avi?

Also it was very picky about what types of movie files I can load into premier.

Is there a settings window where you can tick to include .wma files etc etc etc etc... as it seemed only to allow .mpegs and a few others.

Cheers

Don't use Premiere. It's like taking an aircraft carrier to go fishing.

Use Windows Movie Maker I'd say, free and very good for home video editing.

In the end I imported the file into windows movie maker (yes I know it's crap!) and saved it as a .mpeg

100 meg file down to 1.1meg!! Lost a bit of quality though.

But what about the types of files I can import? As it wont allow me to import half my bike vids!! Which is annoying.

That's kind of the point - it's designed to be working with raw footage, not hacking bits out of previously compressed movies. So, for example, if you've got a clip encoded with DivX, Premiere won't open it.

Try Pinnacle Studio - it has more options for export formats and is a powerful enough editing tool that I used it to make the BCF movie. IMO you only really need Premiere when you get into doing multi camera stuff and need several video and audio tracks running at once.

What format are all your bike vids in? It might just be that Premiere needs the right codec to be able to open them.

Not true, Premiere will open and edit previously compressed footage.

Yams,

As far as I remember, I don't think Premiere supports .mpg export (not completely sure as we use After Effects here). Your best bet is to download the latest DivX and maybe even windows codecs and try again. You can change the compression ratio in Premiere before it kicks a file out - don't just accept default settings. It can take a lot of messing around to get a good compromise between quality and file size. DivX is usually one of the better codecs for this. Alternatively try 'Bink':

https://www.radgametools.com/

As with other compression systems, using Bink means that other people will have to have the same codec on their machines to view it too. Good thing about Bink though is that it can turn your video into a handy .exe so anyone can view it.

I disagree. A fully inflated bouncy castle would make a fairly decent platform to float around on and fish from.

ok, ok! I knew someone would say that!

Ok,

its like taking a telephone (old type) to fish with! Better?

But I suppose you could always hit the fish over the head with it?!

Pah! Well Premiere is crap anyway! That's my point!! Laughing Laughing

LOL!

I use a few different pieces of equipment Zimmy, one is called Inferno by Discreet Logic and another is called Henry Infinity by Quantel.

Inferno runs on a Silicon Graphics Onyx 2 (mmmm) and the Henry runs on specialist hardware created by Quantel.

As far as decent pieces of editing software goes though, you really can't beat anything by Avid. Xpress Pro is available on Kazaa and I would recommend anyone to use that over anything else!

But if you want to do a bit of compositing, After Effects is pretty good, or you could look at Combustion by Discreet Logic or Shake by Nothing Real. All of those pieces of software are currently used on feature film effects too, so that show's you what they are capable of in the right hands! Laughing Laughing

You could wrap some fishing line around the turny dial thing and use it as a reel. Quite useful Razz

I remember years ago in my first job I had a SG Indigo 2 Extreme. It refused to work with it's lid on and one of the hard drives SCSI ribbon had to be taped down otherwise that wouldn't work either! Laughing
