Someones' had a go at my garage door (up and over type), despite the garage defender, and it seems to have sprained the door (catches the hasp on the defender) and the defender itself is bent, but it did the job. Can't help thinking they'll be back to have another go.

What else can I do to secure the garage? I'm thinking an alarm, camera on outside of house... it's shit. We got burgled in May and that cost me as much as the insurance claim pay out to put right, and just when you think you can put money away for Xmas, along comes something else to spend cash on.

Anyone any recommendations?

Don't bother with the 'move house' one, btw, it's already near the top of my list.

So far, wifes' stereo nicked from car, DVDs burgled from house (by someone with a bag whilst front door was ajar - might have even been a postman!!!), garage bust into to get a tarmac tamper we did the drive with, break in whilst we slept to nab tv, laptop, wifes bag. Now this.

Just seems like I've been targetted for some reason, maybe cause the house is a reasonable size, I don't know.

Yeah, there are worse people off than me with what gets nicked, but there's nothing in there worth nicking! We've got the empty tv box in there, maybe someone saw it, I don't know, but it's going down to the tip today (kept in case of faults with new tv).

Anyway, I feel threatened, and angry as fook. Just had a go at wife and about to call local police to let them know, which is a waste of time I'll admit.

Worse part is, if I catch someone and give them a hammering, I'll be the criminal.

Moving is my no.1 priority I think, but waiting till next year. Till then need to make sure what's mine stays mine (and there really isn't much of value to nick, certainly in the garage Sad )

First off a PIR floodlight.
Alarm it if you can use a decent alarm. Don't bother with cheap standalone units. I had one of those in my shop once and the thieves just smashed it and carried on about their business.

Maybe try and get friendly with an illegal immigrant, let him live in your garage (for rent of course) then you have your own live in security, and a bit of cash to put away for christmas.

And if they do break in to the garage it will be him who gets killed before they scarper and not you.

Everyones a winner baby.

Not the sort of comment he's wanting to hear right now I'd think.

Being targeted or just repeately burgled makes your life a misery!

I'm trying to keep a smile on my face, but just about to go down to B&Q to see what they've got.

Turning the house into fort knox isn't my idea of an idyllic existence, and getting targetted whilst the neighbours don't get touched (I think I'd hear about it, and heard nothing) suggests I don't give a sh*t about security, but even when I do secure the stuff (garage defender, garage door is locked, back garage door is locked and has an inner steel gate, also locked, it will be alarmed, and have a floodlight on, and possily put some clamps on the inside on a night. Makes getting in and out more of a pain and defeats the oject of eletric garage doors when you have half a dozen locks to get into..)

Easier just to friggin move I think.

Leeds is shit.

personally mate, the only option i think you have is moving to a better area, if you turn your garage into a fort they will start getting what they can else where in your house or cars, or the cars themselves. i know its not what you want to hear but, if i was gettin raided repeatedly its what i would do.

from inside - fit sliding bolts to top of door so it can't swing open inwards, fit eye bolts into floor at each corner, drill hole in garage door on inner face somewhere and fit chain to bottom of door using carabina and padlock it.

aldi were doing a cctv kit recently,or an electric fence kit thats used to keep cattle in fields could be adapted to make the garage door live(if its a metal one) and spread a rumor that you have a shotgun in the house and are prepared to use it,.....worked for me Very Happy

Sleep in the garage for a bit and wait for them to return, then break their legs and tell the police they fell down the stars trying to escape.

Or park this across your road.

If only. The little shits would probably take you to court then, for having an unsafe house.

Probably. Hmmm, push them down the stairs? Then jump on them? In football boots?

Do what Big Ham says (except for the A-Team van bit)

After youve given them a good kicking, take a photo, tell him you're gonna pass it onto "Big Steve" (make up some story about the imaginary bad-ass in your area) & if anyone goes near your property again he's (the burglar) gonna get punished for it. Twisted Evil

If he's not completely stupid he'll buy it and I'm sure he'll spread the word not to come near your house again.

Yeahh I caught some little scrotes the other day.

I was in the bath room, when I see through frosted glass the light come on in the garden.

(Funny it wasn't windy , ie setting off the lights).

I went in to my sons bedroom and looked out and saw them, managed to run outside and caught one of them.

You have to put fear in these kids, I'm not the tallest of people but I am big and quite handy and I do have a dog that likes to bark.
