That ad is really hard hitting, kinda sucks that you won't ever see anything like that on tv unless its late at night.

If a dog runs out in front of your car would you run the dog over or swerve into the car next to you. Dog gets it every time, i've done a quick wobble on the steering to avoid stuff before, but generally speaking if something flies out or runs out in front of me it's game over. You don't swerve maniacally to avoid roadkill.

yeah i smashed a fairing with an incoming pidgeon rather than risk evasive action

my mum killed a puppy when it ran out and i was a little kid on the back seat

it was before the days of car seats, and if she had braked sharply, she would have hurt me and she didnt want to do that

tough decision sometimes tho

Police repost. Also, wouldn't of happened if he never overtook the car, the dog would have gone un-noticed and that pretty kitten been unscathed. Confused Chavs happen tho. Karma

I don't see how speed comes into it. He was overtaking, which is a perfectly legal manouevre, the only reason he swerved was because the dog ran out infront of him while he was overtaking, speed is irrelevant, if the car he overtook was doing 30 in a 40 or 50 in a 60 the same thing could've happened, the error was swerving to avoid the dog.

dog owners fault for not controlling there animal. If it hadnt ran out into the road then it would of been a reasonably safe over taking manouver as the civic wouldnt of swerved to avoid the dog so therefore and no one would of got injured Very Happy

If you see an animal in the middle of the road, just keep riding in a straight line. Chances are the beast will run one way or the other. If you go left or right you've got more chance of hitting it if it goes the same way.

This doesn't work, of course, if the animal's already dead Wink

Apparently anything the size of a dog or bigger you have to swerve for as its legally owned or something, anything smaller, aim for it.

I've seen cats that are larger than dogs (you know those little rat-like yuppy things), and I have dogs that are larger than most children (St Bernards).

So I hope that the law you mentioned does not exist :p

Pretty certain there's no law saying you have to swerve to avoid hitting certain animals, as that's encouraging accidents, as a swerve is a lot more dangerous than splattering a dog (as the video shows). You're probably referring to the law that you must stop and report it if you knock down a dog due to some ownership rule, though hitting a cat I believe you don't.

I would not swerve/cause an accident with another road user for small mammals such as rabbits. Dogs or cats, I would have to swerve/cause an accident, I just like 'em too much.

You know that recent Think Bike advert where the guy in the car splats that yellow CB500 by pulling out?

And then it shows him looking and it all going fine?
I reckon this should show it all going right aswell.

Guy overtaking splats the collie, then the hot girl who ends in the wheel chair gets naked.

Gaz for president.

It is something i always get very arsey about when people bitch about the evil bastards who knock down dogs/cats meandering in the road.
If im going to hit something i want to be bolt up right.

Problem is, what if its a wee-un?

I used to swerve a bit for animals... but got fed up with them... now I aim! Twisted Evil

Almost went in a ditch trying to catch lunch, erm... I mean... a pheasant... fat one too...
I was in my car of course...

Got a nice brain splat up the window of the van getting a pidgeon too!

If I'm in a car, I'll try to avoid cats, dogs and deer, most other things I'll aim for, on a bike, I try to avoid most things... but I did have to pick rabbit out of my chain... but at least I missed it with my front wheel!

Got a rabbit in the Uno last night, hit it so hard I thought I'ld go back and see what state it was in (about 60mph)... couldn't find it... probably stuck in the front suspension, again!

That is different to animals, you would swerve if there was some kid in the road. Your not gonna go, fuck it he gets the same treatment as the dog

A mate of my dads had a kid run out between parked cars when he was on his blade. Guy wasnt speeding but it was just too close and he went straight through... pff

Point i meant was, swerving into the oncoming lane is dangerous in any rate. Not to mention demolishing your car and someone elses cos some kid doesnt have a clue.... i doubt youd see any money off of that.

Not quite a law that I can see, but advisory: Clicky

Out of general curiosity, I'm curious what you mean.

Ie someones kid decides to play faun just after a blind bend or jump out from between some cars.

You hit the kid... your car will be /mostly/ fine. You will be fine. Kid will be mushed.

You swerve to avoid the kid. You hit an oncoming car. both cars are written off. You and your passengers are injured. People in other car are injured. Kid is fine. You end up with a broken car, another broken car on your insurance so lose NCB, and everyone is likely injured.

Now, thinking about this in a completely cold objective way. Which makes better sense to do?
