I will try get some vids up soon i was going down the A3 with him last night and hit 160. It looks like a banger but its as fast as a porsche!

G60 bored out to 1.8? the G60 was always a 1.8 to start with.

8 valve G60 only puts out 160bhp, and that would have been when it was brand new. Unless it's been recently reconditioned, I'd say you can lose at least 20bhp off that

the 16valv G-Lader did pump out 210 bhp, but only 71 of the Golf-Limited were made, and it had 4-wheel drive, so I doubt he's got one of those under the bonnet without doing some serious drivetrain work.

The G60 powered MkII Golfs (cos the G60 didn't fit in the MkI) would top out at 134mph and do a 0-60 in 7.6 seconds. The limited production Golf Rallye did have a smaller 1.7 engine, and was 4wd. That pushed out 210 bhp and did 0-60 in 6,4 seconds and topped out at 153mph.

Bear in mind those power ratings are at the flywheel. There's even less chance of getting anywhere near that at the wheels.

So unless your mate has better mechanic skillz than the Volkswagen Factory, I call bullshit unless we can see some Dyno charts and some timed runs.

I don't doubt the car might be bloody quick, but I dispute the figures posted.

I will get the specs of my mate i am just remembering this of the top of my head. All i know is that is kept up pretty well with my 636 and pissed all over a subaru impreza WRX off the lights and down the motorway. Trust me this car is fast i would say it is faster then a 911 turbo ( witch i have had allot of rides in).

power to weight ratio of a 911 turbo is around 250bhp/tonne fully laden, or just over 300 bhp/tonne DIN.

The lightest, most powerful Factory Rallye tips the scales at around 750kg and has 220bhp, bringing it in at just under 300bhp per tonne.

Depending if that weight is DIN or laden (I suspect DIN) then it's theoretical performance up to around 60 - 80 mph would be comparable with a 911 Turbo.

In practice, however the factory Rallye was doing 0-60 in over 5 seconds, compared to the Porsche's 3.9. It might have a comparable power to weight ratio, but the Porsche also has far more torque.

Also, bear in mind the aerodynamic differences means that above around 80mph, the porsche will lose you easily. Drag increases at 2/3 the power of speed, and proporitaionlly to surface area. The Golf will also be far more turblulent meaning it just will not get to as high a speed as the porsche, nor as quickly one drag takes more of an effect.

If he has one of those original Factory/Works Rallye golfs, then tell him to restore it, cos they go for shitloads at auction with only 70 ever made.

I don't know much apart form the fact it was bloody fast and was a MK1 with a MK2 G60 engine. The guy works foe VW and can get his hands on pretty much anything. It strips the toothed belt every 500 miles!!

still.. without a dyno readout and a timed run, I call into question the figures. I don't doubt it's fast, I just don't think it's as fast as you said.

The figures were a rough guess after a race against my 636.
Its very similar to this one but i know its has been bored out by 200cc, he also has 2 Polo G40's witch are pretty mental but this thing is the scariest car i have ever been in!

ahahhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, ohhh shit my stomach is hurting from laughing so much = f#king legend

EDIT: in defense of the the original poster, there is a highly tuned golf in the UK, it has been featured in various racing mags (max power, etc etc). The straight like speeds were mind blowing. Something along the lines of the car could only go full throttle for 1 minute before it would blow up. It wasn't the green Golf posted above.

Really? So, it's eating cambelts (not to mention valves, pistons, and everything pretty much underneath) every 500 miles.

You, or your 'mate' I can't decide which, are talking the biggest amount of bullshit, ever. Laughing Laughing Laughing

Either someone can't do basic arithmetic, or you're telling more porkies Wink

I don't doubt the mods, nor to I doubt that it's a quick car, but as I've said time and again, I do doubt the performance figures you were quoting.

As said if it strips the cam belt its new valves pistons and maybe head. Even if it can beat a 911 its still s Mk1 Golf. I know which I would rather own.

This is like a Police intervew, when i 1st posted i was going from my memory and then i got a load of agro from people who have nothing better to do so i asked my mate to text me the mods and wrote it down in my last post. I thought it had been board an extra 200cc but thats my stupid dyslexic memory. The whole point of the post was just to say i never thought a car like that could be so fast! I have driven a ferrari and had a ride in a few fast cars but nothing got the blood pumping like the Golf did!
