Well done to you sir. Takes nuts. What you in boxing for, fitness,or would you like to fight. If the latter option i would advice you start running in your free time,i.e at night & weekends as soon as you can, because when you get chucked in the adults class im sure it will be much more demanding, and then you will probably have to start sparring (by choice) and you will be thankful that you started running,as you arent totally gassed by the end of the first round. Couple of tips: Keep your chin tucked, keep your hands up,stay in your proper stance, knees slightly bent, balls of your feet, twist with the punch, but dont over compensate. You sore yet? |

Do they teach you to block and use guards in boxing?
If they do always keep your guard up punch with one hand keep the other in the guard until first is back to guard position then punch with other hand and so on. ____________________ www.southwestbikers.com

Mickey. Quality. Yeah, ease up on the smoking guv,of all kinds it doesnt do you any favours in boxing. They call boxing the 'Sweet Science',and until you try it,you wont understand why,but im sure you do now. There is so much to learn, and in about two months time you will look back and think, dam,i got better. Has anyone, trainer wise,at the gym asked you what you want from boxing yet? I.e to get fit,or to fight. Sleep is also an important aid to boxing, its growing time. |

Right well iv never done any serious boxing before just messing about with mates.
I'm a purple white stripe in karate and just tryna give tips from that really. Might give it a go because of the lack of contact in karate. ____________________ www.southwestbikers.com

Yea that sort of make scence, how I was taught is step in get a punch/kick whatever and step back out, where as boxing i would guess as in as much as possible. Karate also you never swing your arms, to slow and easy to block while quick jabs are unexpected and harder to block because they require so little movement and are much quicker. ____________________ www.southwestbikers.com

No offence, but after one small session boxing I have realised that martial arts cant come close to boxing for self protection, I spent a few yrs doing Jujitsu and got a couple of trophies at it, but just seeing how simple those lads at the gym make boxing is unreal.
I have never once used Jujitsu in a fight, but just from being there tonight you can see how useful boxing is for protection as well as sport and keeping fit.
I thought it would be a piece of piss, its not! Where your feet are mean as much as where your hands are, and just throwing a combination of two left jabs and 1 right punch for 20 mins at a bag was killing me, you have to give those 15 round pros respect.
Trying to get my feet working with my hands was really hard, really really hard in fact, I must of looked like a clown to those lads, they were dancing all over the place like Ali.
BUT, Rocky Marciano once said.......why dance for twelve rounds when you can knock em out in one?
I would probably not dance AND get knocked out.
I really can see why they call it the sweet science rezzin yeah, one of the trainers was telling me that there are twelve defences just for a left right combo
I cant wait to learn this proper. |

None taken,
I can see what you mean though never using it in a fight, never had a serious fight, but if I did, I doubt i would use 90% of what I've learned you just wouldn't get the opportunity. Did judo for a bit and quit because it was absoloute bollocks nothing would work in a real life situation.
Just whatever works for you really. ____________________ www.southwestbikers.com

Well you sound like you've got heart and determination. Just listen to everything your told, and try and put it into practise, even at home. Try some shadowboxing in front of a mirror if you've got one,it all helps. When moving back, your front foot follows your rear, when moving forward, your rear foot follows your front, when moving to the right your left foot follows your right, when moving to the left your right foot follows your left. (Depending on your stance!) Just keep everything tight and tucked, and focus on speed for now, because you 'look' like you've got some power in that 16 stone frame. Good luck on your journey, maybe one day we can meet up for a spar? Just think of them pigs, when your boxing, how shit they treated you,and all the grief you got. Chanel it into your workout |

WTF?
Boxing vs Karate He landed one punch in about 4 minutes and he is instantly the winner even though he got straight back up, he did nothing but push him into the corner. Or do I just not get the rules? ____________________ www.southwestbikers.com

Loads of different regs and rule in KB / MT and some of them don't allow leg kicks as it prevents all the jumping spinning kicks as fighters are grounded by a solid thigh kick.
I have been put on my arse enough times by a thigh kick, it hurts no other word to describe it, then imagine trying to jump and fight with a dead leg.
I had trouble walking for a few days after ____________________ Current : MSX 125 Past : CBR 900RR Monkeybike : c50 LAC : ZXR750 H2 : FZR600 : ZX7R P3 : YW100 : TRX850: Trophy 900 T309 : GSXR 600 L0: Monkeybike : XJ6S Whosthedaddy |
