This might sound like a silly question but can someone tell me what the law is on riding with your headphones under your helmet playing you mp3's??

There is no law against it.

Do a search on here for a few threads discussing it, some people think it is an irresponsible thing to do while others see no problem.

I always find the sport (jogging) headphones better as they wrap around your ear, used to annoy the hell out of me when my lid would plug the headphone out of my ear while putting on helmet...

Would never ride while listening to music, should have all your attention on the road.

you can buy speakers that sit udnder the lining of your lid, that way you can still hear some of whats going on around you, rather than those headphones you put in your ear which cuts out most of the background noise. My bike to bike radios have an inlet plug for an mp3 player etc to go into them.

personaly id never ever do it but one of my best friends, "louis" on this forum rides everyday of the year with headphones in and is yet to have an accident

its your choice to take the risk and i dont think its illegal either, at least my test instructor said it wasnt!

i ride pillion a lot with a friend who insists on wearing headphones. They're not in-ears, but he has the volume to the point where its ridiculous.
Sat at lights or just dismounting, and there's a 5minute gap as he gets a glove off and presses pause, where he can't understand a thing I'm saying... even tho he tries talking to me. If he can't hear me shouting at him, i'm sure he can't hear other vehicles, so it leaves me worried.

I've also had a couple of very close calls riding with headphones in on a pushbike, so no way in **** am i willing to do it on my motorbike.

I ride with one - Would never ride with 2. I asked OH about this, think I posted a while back. There is no law for it. But if you are in a crash, that could go against you for un-due care & attention. If you get a bad cop he will try to get you for it.
