(Edited so that the negative and ignorant vibes don't look so out of place Wink)

Why the hell do these damn so-called emergency services vehicles have those blasted sirens? They make sooo much noise, and I reckon that they do it just to annoy me.

Their driving booths are clearly sound-proofed so that they don't hear anything when driving, which allows them to chat about on their radios and mobiles etc...

But most of all, why don't people just be more careful? I mean, FFS, stop catching on fire, getting injured, becoming victims of crime etc...

Bastards.

i know you cant use you horn between i think 11pm and 7am, i don't know about sirens, but i imagine that they can use it whenever they want... (most police cars seem to think they can use it to get through traffic/ across a set of lights)

You are completely right!

About the fact that they are doing their job, its obviously an area where they feel the need to put sirens on to warn other motorists, if they have them off till they get there then they are trying to be quiet but when they are gunning it along they need to turn them on to warn others in areas where a car could just pull out.

Believe it or not they aint out to get you. Mr. Green

Yep.

Offence to use a horn without good reason in a built up area between 1130pm and 0700 am.

Sirens are used to warn the horde of drink drivers/crap drivers that emergency services are coming and the pull to the hard shoulder, but usually people stop dead where they are anyway....... Rolling Eyes

You don't need to say you live in London, it's obvious from your post.

I'm sure if you point and shout loud enough the inconsiderate bastards will stop having heart attacks/being murdered

Laughing

Ooh...I seem to have touched a nerve here...apologies if I offended you siren lovers..

I wasn't really criticising the people who were needing the services, nor the people actually providing the services...just why when the roads are clearly empty at 2.30 in the morning, that they feel the need to put their sirens on for those few seconds...whilst other times I've seen them rushing through city centres with just flashing lights and no sirens?

Bastards the lot of 'em *... Wink

* Yes, that was a joke, but feel free to take offence...

Cheers,

I dont think anyone loves sirens, and the roads being empty doesn't come into it, you dont know that there are no cars going to scream round a junction, so it is far safer to put the sirens on and warn of your presence.

I guess you live near a junction? They always whack on the sirens when crossing at red to make damn sure that no-one else is going to just drive into their path

What a stupid question to be asking.

Did you think they fitted the sirens becasue they had a large batch of them sat in stores doing nowt..

"You can have the sirens to play with so long as you don't use them after 23:30hrs....OK"

You really wanna try sitting in a van with them damn things going off on the roof, not a nice place to be.
It is so loud that the radio cannot be heard, hence many response operators wear an earpeice these days.

What about those reversing warning beeper things? I once had a cop van fannying about reversing outside my bedroom window at one in the morning.

Wouldn't have minded so much if he'd stayed put to keep guard for me from the local scrotes.

Oh and one early morning (6am ish) I saw some bird in a Clio reversing off her driveway with the reversing beeping warning!!! Laughing WTF? If I was her next door neighbour I'd be throwing shoes at her every morning.

All that was missing was the 'WARNING: WOMAN REVERSING' message in a robotic voice Laughing Wink

With her being a woman driver I imagine it would be best for everyone if it beeped when it was going forwards, too.

bah , by 2012 government job creation schemes will bring back 5mph speed limits so that a man has to walk infront of ALL motorised vehicles waving a red flag to alert people of their presence. Gotta hide those 10 million unemployed some how Wink

Moot point of note, if an ambulance/fire/police are on blues and twos DO NOT :

Cross double whitelines
Move across the white line at traffic lights
Go round the wrong side of traffic islands

This guy moved out the way for an ambulance across a red traffic light line, got 3 points.

Nope, don't live near a junction, just a normal stretch of road with houses and the occasional shop...

...hmm...with the people failing to actually read what I'm saying, I may as well edit my original post so that these poor people won't seem so silly and ignorant... Wink

Yup, same here. When I was carted off, they didn't turn on the woo-woo's...maybe that's where the emotional scarring stems from...Sad

I friggin' hate bloody sirens. It's all I hear in Reading, all friggin' day long. Wish nobbers would actually look in their mirros, see that they're coming and move out before they have to be 'told' to. Mad

Not the emergency services fault for using the sirens but I still friggin' curse them for it. Mad Mad Mad Mad Mad Mad [/cross]

Well if you knew they weren't on AND you were well enough to ask for them to be put on I suggest they weren't warranted at that time.

Whilst were on the subject of dumb things.......recovery trucks with flashing beacons when they are towing a car Rolling Eyes , i don't have any when i'm towing an 18' trailer or caravan. TURN THEM OFF!!!
