Finally passed my test, getting a bike now

finally passed my bike test and now looking for a bike to buy, ive spotted a honda rvf400 with 20,000 miles from a dealer, L reg for £2500, insurance is just under £700.

1st thought is that its bit overpriced but a friend of mine said that its pretty rare to get one under £3000.

is the bike overpriced?

Seems like a average price for a rvf. Theres quite a difference in price compared to the vfr.

im also going to have it restricted to 33bhp since im 20, will that make such a huge difference to its performance? also how much would a restrictor kit cost?

Well considering its basically halving the horse power, it does make quite a bit of difference. Acceleration up to 100 is still pretty quick, but you'll struggle to get past 110, as opposed to 125-135mph un-restricted. Once it gets past 12,500rpm, it'll feel pretty gutless, especially in 5th+6th. Still good fun though, although once you take the restrictors out you'll notice a huge difference!

Restrictor kit, if bought off FI International, plus fitting, will cost you between £150-200, which is rediculous. The best option is to ask around on here or over on 400gb forum if anyone has an unused kit lying around. I got mine for a tenner off someone. Then you can get it fitted at your local dealer, or do it yourself. It's not hard to do - tank off, airbox off, carbs off, slot restrictors in and there you go. Of course then you dont have the FI International certificate of restriction, which you dont need legally at all, but it's best to have the bike dynoed so atleast you've got something to show the old bill if they pull you over and ask for proof of restriction (not likely though).

well im not too fussed about top speed, as long as its nippy around urban areas as that is where i'd most likely travel as long as 0-60 is still pretty gd and can do corners well
