What sports bike?

Well here i am ready to go. I am looking for a sports bike, something fast and nice to look at.

It will be used everyday, to go to and from work,40miles ish per day A roads,

Its got to start, whats your thoughts, Local dealer wanted to sell me a 748 ?

748 is an awesome bike but will cost a fortune to keep going !!!! i would suggest any of the normal sports bikes, cbr, gsxr, zx etc

Can I be a bit annoying and suggest you don't get a sportsbike?
They're not the most practical machines in the world - they're uncomfortable, expensive to keep and maintain, have a low tank range, difficult to maneuver at slow speed, the mirrors suck and it's difficult to look over your shoulder so they're not the best for traffic...etc...

Try something like a Fazer, SV650 or Hornet (although the Hornet suffers from low tank range too) - not far off sportsbike performance but a whole lot more practical and comfortable.

a CBR600F is a good compromise fairly sporty , has a titchy under seat storage and isn't too extreme al la R6 R1 etc

Sorry gents, this is not my first bike, but it will be my first (big bike)

I had a Suzuki GSF 400, butnow want a sports bike, something i can use to and from work, and enjoy at the weekend.

I have been told to look at a 1000 due to the torque, would mean less gear changes. however, the though of a 1000 sports bike does scare the pants off me. Im sure its no different to a 600, (well much fast) but i have not though that much about that size bike.

OOO that makes a large difference then lol!

Still a thou might be a bit of a leap, plus you can pick up a tidy 600 for very little these days! The other good thing is parts are dirt cheap, which is a major bonus when your commuting and requiring more than the average service!

CBR6 or R6 would be pretty fun and reliable, if you want bulletproof commuters try GPZ's. BMW's are meant to be great for commuting but ive not ridden one so cant comment, mind you shaft drive is always appealing, even better in the winter!

GSXR750? would be my bike of choice if i was after a sportsbike, probably not the best for commuting on though.

my dad commutes on a BMW R1100S boxer cup rep. everyday stunning bike imho, he loves the heated grips and shaft drive.

also isnt as powerful as the superbikes so not going to need a spare pare of pants everyday for the first week you own it!

hes had it nearly two years now i think and hasn't had any mechanical faults at all, the only bad point i can think of is that if you leave it standing for two weeks or more the battery tends to go flat and its a pain in the arse to get out to charge and even harder to bump start the bike!

I'm back to commuting on mine again and it eats the miles up (50 a day) with no probs.

Hey all,

ok guys (and girls)! i need some help, i have just passed my Bike test and am now able to ride any bike, i had a ....... dare i say SCOOTER a few years back, but now i want something better!

the problem is, i have NO IDEA what bike i should be looking for, i went having a look last week and i was pointed towards the Kawasaki ER-6F, but i have also been told by a few people that generally a 600 would be fine if i treat it with respect, im reluctant to get a 250 / 400 if, in 6 months im going to be bored, but on the other hand, i kinda like my life at the moment and im fully aware that something like Ninja 600, could possibly kill me......... so as your the experts PLEASE HELP ME DECIDE!!

400s wont bore most people upgrading from a scooter, theyre almost as quick as 600s up to a ton, and capable of 130 most of them. They handle well, make the best noise and best of all.. get a zxr400 and they look damn good too
