Frame Numbers

Hey,
Just had the frame on my DT powder coated but the guy went over the frame numbers and they can no longer be seen. Are these reqiured for the mot?

Anyone got any Ideas on how to make them visible again. I have tried a bit of wet and dry but this has made it worse if anything.

I don't think you will fail an M.O.T but on the piece of paper they will put it down as it can't be seen.
When my Raleigh went in the guy couldn't find the engine or chassis number but it still passed it's M.O.T Thumbs Up

As far as I know, a chassis number isn't required for the MoT. There will be a way around it, but it might be an idea to have a word with the chap who did the powder coating to see if the paint can be removed from the plate.

VIN numbers are required for bikes from (iirc) 98 onwards, if your bike is later than that and the number cant be seen then it should fail.

Not according to the information on: https://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/OwningAVehicle/Mot/DG_10016070

It mentions a VIN for cars, but not motorcycles.

I read about this in motorcycle mechanics not that long ago.it's from 98 onwards

It is according to the MOT testing manual from VOSA.

Thats ok then the bike is the 89 model, the powder coating place said they will re-do it if I cant get the paint back down to the numbers. I suppose if they arent needed then I wont bother.
