If you want to check that your 'bike is listed on the insurance database (the one used by the Police) have a look here:

www.askmid.com

Put in your registration and it'll tell you if you are listed.

This is quite worrying. I insured my new bike before I picked it up yesterday and according to the database I am not insured. I have just checked my bank and the deposit hasnt been taken either Confused. They told me I am fully insured and the papers have been sent through so I presumed I was.

The database is not definitive, but if you're not in it it's worth checking with your insurer / broker.

If you're not in the database and get pulled over then you'll need to produce your insurance certificate as evidence.

Pah I try and always keep my docs on me.

Last time I was pulled in the uk they got no hits on the system even though I had my policy for close to 8 months at the time.

errrrr...... Either something is very wrong or I'm onto a winner. I tried five of my bikes on there and they all came up as on the database.

Two of those bikes haven't been insured for over a year and one hasn't been insured for 2 years. I wonder if its just saying that at some point the registration as been added to the database and not that the insurance is valid?

One of them will be back on the road in a few weeks, it'll be interesting to see if I can tax it before its insured since its in the database.

The insurance ran out on my car in July this year, and that comes up as uninsured.

Looks like you might be on to a winner!

The insurance on my bike ran out last night and it's come up as uninsured, so it either wasn't on there to begin with or it's quite up to date.

This is getting weird.
I tried my boys scooter. He's not 16 until next year but I brought it earlier this year from a guy at work. I stuck it on my insurance and rode it home. That policy ran out July and I changed insurers. It still comes up as on the database. Coincidently, all the bikes that are uninsured were insured by Ebike at some point. You've got to wonder what's going on?

I shall email them see what they say.

NOW I AM WORRIED

Checked my lads bike (MCE) my daughters car (Tesco) my wifes car (AA) and my bike (eBike). All except mine show as insured! My lads and mine where insured within a few days. Checked my eBike policy and yes its valid. Strange thing is I got stopped the the police a month ago and the said it was not showing on the database, however the insurance at that time was only a few days in.

Just written to eBike and asked why. Might have to forward something to the ombudsman as it seems to be happening to a few eBike customers on here! Shocked

Even if your insurers have sorted your insurance, it takes bloody ages for the info to come onto the insurance database.

I re-insured the Buell back in June or something, and I was due to tax it at the end of july. I tried the online taxation on the first possible day you can do it (15th of July) and it didn't work as I wasn't on the insurance database. I finally renewed the tax online on the 28th of July IIRC. So it took almost a month to get on the database...

Seems a lucky dip as to if your details show up correct or not. Tried all the vehicles in our family that are ALL insured and have been for months and it got less than 2 out of 6 correct. If the Police use it to see if your insured you could probably get away with no insurance. Shocked

Your insurance company has 14 days to amend the records when you change / incept / cancel a policy.

Due to some system errors, backlogs etc etc you may find the MID is not fully up to date.

I'm not entirely sure if this is an up-to-date complete representation of the MID as it's normally quite costly for the police and insurance companies to have access to this information so i'm suprised that it has been opened up to the general public.

Thanks though, should make for an interest conversation at work Thumbs Up
