when stopping with a pillion on the back which foot should you put down?

left
right
both?

i always put down both but surely it should be the same as when riding normally and then only putting down the other to balance?

I think you should always put your left down when riding alone. Something to do with cars overtaking isnt it?
As for with pillion, Ive always put both feet down just to save the embarrassment of going to put my left foot down and the bike leaning to the right! Laughing

But to be fair, If you cant stop at the lights and put the correct foot down with a pillion. Then they are clearly not fit to be riding pillion?

Ive had about 8 or 9 people on the back of the NC29 and a few on the NC30, And Ive had a fair few who cant seem to understand that they need to sit still(ish) and relax!

One lass seem to have to adjust her lid/visor every time we stopped at the lights. So every time I set off, I had to make sure she was holding on again. Not bad but when you filter to the front of the que, You really feel you need to get a quick get away so your not holding up the cars you have just pushed in front of. Laughing

Depends on how long you are going to be stopped.
Long time, both, short time either left or right depending on the road and angle of camber.

SWMBO, has been trained to sit still and ask if she can Laughing move while we are stopped....

Left should go down so you can cover the rear brake. If you have a good pillion the only thing you should notice is the extra weight.

Personally I'd always go with the left foot so that the right can cover the rear brake like what I was taught. However, I do accept that in certain circumstances the right might be the foot of choice; road surface, white lines, diesel, gravel, camber, changing down to 1st etc... But usually and nearly always the left regardless of pillion or not; both feet maybe if you got a wobbly lard arse on the back... Mr. Green

I stop with left foot down, right covering brake.
My regular pillions know to sit still, but then they have been my pillions for over 7 years so they know how I ride, but with anyone on the back I still use left foot down majority of the time.

Which ever I feel like. Tends to be left most of the time.

If I'm sitting for ages I'll put both feet down and put it in neutral and have a stretch.

I sit with my right foot down covering the gear lever.

Just to rebel against the system.

You should always put your left foot down and cover the rear brake with your right foot, anything different and you would fail your test for it.

By the way I don't always practice what I preach... Very Happy

Left foot down, and I put my right down as well if I feel unstable due to slope or pillion shuffling or whatever.

Best one I ever had was my mate decided he had to re arrange himself so he stood up mid corner to adjust his balls.

Must have been funny to watch if nothing else..

Right foot, that way you don't have to do the biker shuffle when you wanna select a gear. I always bang it into neutral when stopped for any length of time as it saves stretch on the cable. If I'm on a hill I use the front brake. Its relatively easy to cover the front brake and still throttle up on hill starts.

I just kill the engine if I'm stopped for more than 30 seconds. It only takes a second for it to fire back into life.

Depends, I swap and change depending on where I've stopped, be it an incline/decline, how long I'm going to be waiting, if I'm in gear or not, if I'm carrying a passenger, yadda yadda...
