1, to do direct access for anybike you need to do your test on a big bike, this will have to be done through a test centre or you will have to get a mate to ride a bike to the test centre for you. it will have to display 'L's' and then once complete you can ride any bike. alternatively you get your cbt done and then you take your kmx to the test centre yourself and book yourself in for the test, you do not need to have lessons to book the bike test so you will complete it on a 125 and be restricted to 33hp for 2 years, this will allow you have a pillion on the back.
your theory test is not valid from car to bike or vice versa, you need to do a seperate theory for your motorcycle test.

2, the kmx whould cope fine with a pillion but remember its not a big bike, if your 10stone and your pillion is 10 stone it wont be too bad, but if your 15 stone and sos your pillion it really is going to struggle/die.

as for insurance, you ill effectively be on a full bike license so you will get lower insurance, or so it seems. it may not be hugely lower but it will be lower. depends on your age and other factors by how much it will drop.
