I never remove my helmet when filling up or paying. Luckily I have only been refused petrol once. And I stood around for a good 5 minutes while the increasingly annoyed till monkey tried to get my attention over the PA system whilst I was wearing ear-plugs... Laughing In the end another driver came over to me. So I just jumped back on the bike and flipped the kiosk the bird as i rode off...never been back (my local Sainsbury's by the way).

Like others have said. When they start making boyz in their hoodies and caps, or women in Burkhas removing theirs - THEN I will start removing mine....

I like the idea of tesco pay at pump so i dont have to bother taking the helmet off. TBH if i dont have my headphones on i don't mind taking it off but people tend to get a wee bit more scared when i have my balaclava on. I don't really get any problems up north but have had a few in Glasgow.

this discussion has nothing to do with religious beliefs although santa would have to lower his beard when getting the dear some snacks.
i said equality - thats when all people have the same rights regardless or colour, creed, sex, background or religion - ever heard of it?

You are sending the wrong signals...

You should go over and admire their ride, boost them up to bursting and then challenge them to rip it up on the way out the gas station.
They will just love you after that. Laughing

I would like to mention that I agree with most of what you are saying. One rule for one, one rule for another. The idea is ridiculous and annoying.

But I want to also point out that you are complaining about the time it takes, but the time you spent argueing or riding to the next petrol station surely is greater?

It doesn't add up to me.

It's about the principle of bikers being treated differently from other petrol station users.

It is infact illegal to do so under Part 2 of the Equality Act 2006, I'll quote the relevent parts of https://www.opsi.gov.uk/acts/acts2006/ukpga_20060003_en_5#pt2-pb1-l1g44

Quote:
46 Goods, facilities and services

(1) It is unlawful for a person (“A”) concerned with the provision to the public or a section of the public of goods, facilities or services to discriminate against a person (“B”) who seeks to obtain or use those goods, facilities or services—

(a) by refusing to provide B with goods, facilities or services,

(b) by refusing to provide B with goods, facilities or services of a quality which is the same as or similar to the quality of goods, facilities or services that A normally provides to—

(i) the public, or

(ii) a section of the public to which B belongs,

(c) by refusing to provide B with goods, facilities or services in a manner which is the same as or similar to that in which A normally provides goods, facilities or services to—

(i) the public, or

(ii) a section of the public to which B belongs, or

(d) by refusing to provide B with goods, facilities or services on terms which are the same as or similar to the terms on which A normally provides goods, facilities or services to—

(i) the public, or

(ii) a section of the public to which B belongs.

(2) Subsection (1) applies, in particular, to—

(a) access to and use of a place which the public are permitted to enter,

(b) accommodation in a hotel, boarding house or similar establishment,

(c) facilities by way of banking or insurance or for grants, loans, credit or finance,

(d) facilities for entertainment, recreation or refreshment,

(e) facilities for transport or travel, and

(f) the services of a profession or trade.

Namely, it is illegal for them to force you to remove your head covering if they do not force Muslim women to do the same

Having see a quote from a BP spokewoman the other day I just sent this email to BP's careline.

Quote:
I read with interest this article the other day https://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/news.html?in_article_id=489407&in_page_id=1770&in_page_id=1770&expand=true and noted a quote from your spokeswoman saying "None of our staff has the right to discriminate on who they serve, regardless of what they are wearing.".

As a biker who is often required to remove his helmet before being served I would like to know why I have to remove my motorcycle helmet before I fill my bike, yet a woman can continue to wear a veil while she fuels her car.

I can understand why you would want your customers to be identifiable; however as this is clearly not a blanket policy it seems to be discrimination based on assumed religious beliefs.

There is a long standing discussion here https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=92554&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0 where a number of us have discussed the pro and cons of this policy and we would welcome your input.

I look forward to your reply.

To which they quickly replied:

Gareth, BP Customer Care Advisor for BP wrote:
As part of the petroleum license conditions, customer assistants must ensure that the person dispensing petroleum or LPG is aged 16 or over, as it is against the law to serve these products to underage persons.

If the face of the person attempting to dispense these fuels is obscured the customer assistant can ask the person to remove their helmet, hood or baseball cap etc. A visual check of this nature is often very helpful in determining if a person is of the required minimum age.

So a woman in a veil should be asked to uncover her face to verify her age in the same way that we are asked to remove out helmets.

Gareth, BP Customer Care Advisor for BP wrote:

In addition, the customer assistants may also ask for proof of age, if they are still unsure. As a matter of security, customers are asked to remove helmets before entering the sales building to pay for the fuel. The guidelines apply to all customers using our service stations.

so a helmet is a security risk where as a veil is not...

does this mean If I wear a veil over my helmet I wont have to remove it? if only I had the balls to try that out.

Email it back to them, asking that

BTW, whats the mail address for BP careline? Because I would love to ask the same question but also quoting the Equality Act 2006 from above.

Even if it is a security thing, they cannot say well one type of head covering is OK, while another is not. For instance they cannot tell you to remove a balaclava...

Equally if they ask you to remove the helmet - you can tell them that you worship motorbikes and that part of your religion forbids you removing the helmet Razz

That's pretty stupid as surely if you have come in on a motorbike you are 16 or over.

You could wear a veil underneath so when they tell you take your helmet off they still can't see your face.

Equally, you can always show them your license instead of removing the helmet

And what would that prove if you didn't remove your helmet?
I'm sure there are plenty of under 16 chavs going around on scooters.
