And what would that prove if you didn't remove your helmet?
I'm sure there are plenty of under 16 chavs going around on scooters.

That you are old enough to buy fuel? That was one of the points raised, that they need to make sure you are old enough to get fuel (a stupid rule imo).

Most people probably carry thier driving license in thier wallet, meaning that when you are paying for fuel it is far quicker to show them your license then to remove the helmet.

Now, of course, we get into the whole thing "well the photoid is of no use since we cant know its yours", but this is where we come to the whole Equality Act 2006 thing again, they cant ask you to remove your helmet to let them see your face if they are not prepared to ask a Nuslim woman to do the same (for both age & ID check). If they do force you to do so, then they are discriminating against you both on the grounds of sex and religion.

Its [email protected], the thing I found interesting is they didnt mention any specifica regarding a veil, so it would seem their policy should apply equally to both helmets and veils.

And as has been said if they only apply the policy to one group then surely that is clearly discrimination.

What a fucking Stupid comment!

Do you celebrate Christmas? well that is part of christian (among other) religion so if you are so up for equality that you want someone to stop celebrating their religion then are you prepared to give up christmas?

i bet the answer is no!

What you have said has got nothing to do with equality! all you are doing is shit stiring! go fuck off and leave that for your BNP rally!

how about you shut the fuck up. who gives a fuck about what religion they are, the simple fact is if bikers are asked to show their faces, then so should everyone else. if they dont like it, its their problem. why should others have themselves exempt from the rules, when we have to abide by them???

when brits visit places in the middle east, asia etc, we respect their cultures, you know, take our shoes off, cover bare skin up etc, and abide by their laws, otherwise we'd probably get shot. so they should do the same here.

Do you wear a helmet or do you refuse to do that because people with turbans don't have to?

Actually I think thats out of order too, however since I have never actually seen a biker wearing a turban its never been an issue.

What we are talking about here is something that effects us on a daily basis, yes I have to remove my helmet when entering a bank or buying petrol and to be honest I dont object to either... however in a society where equality is so important the same rules should apply to all not just those who dont believe in a certain god.

However you do raise an intersting point, what would happen to a white man in leathers riding an R1 at 70mph down the motorway wearing a turban.

Would he be pulled over and questioned on his religion?

Religion should be seperate from the law, religion is something you choose, you should not be able to make a choice that allows you to bypass certain laws, kind of defeats the object of them being laws dont you think?

I do leave my helmet on when going into petrol stations or quick visits into shops. However, I take my dark glasses off and make an effort to smile (even though no one can tell), be friendly, say hello, get my money out and be as non threatening as possible. This seems to work, my local sainsburys have never had a problem with it and I've never been asked to remove my lid anywhere else. It may help that I'm 5'7" and female. Smile

I wear liner glover this time of year and just cannot be arsed to fiddle with gloves, comfy, headphones, etc.

This said, the lady at my local shop hinted that she would prefer me to remove my helmet. I do, because they are nice, didn't kick up a fuss and I go there every day. It's just manners - it's their shop and I wish to get on with them.

Sorry if its allready been said but i do beleave some garages stop you wearing your helmet for a pretty good reason. Arm robbery think how many people use masks helmets to hide there face while robbing the garage.

Now think about the poor 50 yr old woman standing behind a till with a 6ft2 18 stone bloke standing in front of her wearing all leathers and a blacked out helmet. Im pretty sure she be shitting herself even if she doesn't show it.

I think the crime stats for Greater Manchester last year were:

Number of pertol stations robbed by armed robbers in mororcycle gear/helmets: 0

I think the Veil / Headress point is very valid here and not just with regards to petrol stations.

What about the male suspect who dressed as a Muslim woman with Full Veil etc so only her? eyes were visible getting through security at Heathrow Airport?

Personally and this has got nothing against the Muslim faith i find someone wrapped up head to toe with only the eyes showing more intimidating than a biker with a helmet on.

To be honest it feels like the average British person is getting discriminated against more and more so that the Goverment earns brownie points for being culturally correct.

I don't have a problem with removing my helmet.

I DO have a problem being discriminated against.

Now how about that 6ft2 18 stone bloke decides to dress head to foot in black and wear a veil so that only his eyes are showing, is he now less intimidating that when he was in his bike gear? and would he now be able to buy petrol?

So it seems it boils down to 'security purposes'.

That's ok then, I'm sure asking these imaginary bike-helmet wearing armed robbers to remove their lid will prevent them from sticking a gun in the assistant's face. Rolling Eyes

A silly ill-thought out 'policy' which causes a ridiculously long thread on here and dullard 'muzlim vales blah blah' comments.

Sorry if some of you seem to think what i said was funny but its the exact reason murco refused to let me get petrole.

Also when mentioning this to my girlfriend she says well what do you expect men in blacked out helmets are scary. Sounds silly but thats the view of 23 yr old woman.

I'm new so forgive me if external link are not allowed but here is a link to MCN which lists Anti-bike petrol stations

Ive been asked around 4 times now to remove my lid.
Apart from the MISS on my card, another excuse was - (As above) You need to be 16+ to use the fuel and I couldnt see how old you were - Well excuse me its 21 to be able to ride a bigger bike - with mine clearly saying 650 on the side.
Other one, other day I removed my lid. He then asked me to remove my balaclava - which im getting annoyed, you can see my face well enough as its a big open hole one.
I go to pay for the fuel and ask what the guidlines are for women who wear veil - No answer, so I asked again clearly ignoring me and still no answer.
He was not British so either his english was crap or he was just an utter arrogant twat who didnt know anything. & I think the latter.

I doubt that.

Turban rule is there because it is not possible to get a lid over a turban - a turban is a complex wrappage of cloth over the sikh fella's uncut (dead long) hair.

God this does my head in, 10 years ago none of us particularly knew, or cared, about religious veils.

Now it's the stock blah blah, outraged, PC-gone-mad, racist against whites, daily mail style reply to everything.

Dont go to tescos store in saffron walden essex then because I went in there with a open faced helmet (the complete flip front style which shows your entire face) and was still asked to remove it.

I asked why and they said it was against shop policy to allow the wearing of crash helmets in the garage.

I pointed out that this was surely for the benefit of people wearing full face helmets but they wouldnt budge.

I walked out at that point and rode off.

I never did pay for the fuel Embarassed

This has happened a few times and all I do is take off my helmet fill up then stand at the till once I've paid and take a good long time to put it back on, they might not care if you take your custom else where but it gets right up their nose if you block the till for other customers, I'm never rude but then again I'm never fast either, my local petrol station have stopped asking me to take my helmet off.

Also only take your helmet off if they ask you to so, I don't do it for signs but will if asked to by an employee, never be rude because all that does is weaken your agruement and strengthen theirs.

This whole thing about taking off your helmet at petrol stations annoys me its silly what about certain religionious people that wear head gear and other items of clothes that cover there face completely
they dont get asked to remove it. and as for company policy ive been to the same station twice and once got asked to remove my helmet so feel a bit silly coz every body is looking at you i did (stupidly) then next time i went ( i had to go to this one as i was running on fumes and was the nearest) they did not ask me to remove it. but from now on i will refuse to remove my helmet and go else where. if i go into a shop i will remove my helmet because its manners and all that stuff, but a quick in and out in a petrol station no, i think its silly.
