Right. My bike has been in my friends garage for roughly a month and a half without the bike being riden or even started up.

I went today to bring my bike to my workplace to aid me in selling it. But it wouldn't start up(as though the battery was flat, turned over slightly but the engine wouldn't kick up).

I thought maybe the battery was dead. So I rolled it down roughly 90 yards of downhill. Bumpstarting it didn't do anything. Used a battery charger pack to jump start it, it had some more action to it, as though it was actualy making an effort to start up, but still the engine wouldn't turn over.
Let it charge for about 15minutes but still same problem.

Has the battery totaly gone? Does it need replacing, or what other things should I look at. I've had a look at the sparkplug, all fine there.

You need to charge the battery for much longer.
Which bike is it.

If you can charge it on slow charge over night or for 8 hours or so.
Or you will need fast charge for 40 minutes I would say.Don't try it at 30
minutes or you might have to start charging from start again if it does not work.

if its not holdin a charge that can really suck like what happend to mine, it just wouldnt start if i left it for 5 mins, so bump starting was quickly learned. i would bump it, let it run for a 5 mins, turn it off, check the voltage, it would be fine, then check it again, and it was dead Confused

Yes but you need to tell the guy how to bump start it or how to charge it.
I am not going to tell some one that tried to bump start and failed how to
because they may not be able to.It can go so wrong.
Best charge the battery.

Paddy.

well we soon learn the trick of the trade to starting a bike by bumping it.i have an issue with either electrics or battery on the gs where it sometime holds the charge and sometimes not so i just park on a slope now and pray for the best , {until i can actually get a chance to have a look at it or change the battery} on the bright side pushing the bike is about the most exercise i get any way. Would th engine start with the Charger running though to the battery?

I remember with my 125 about a year ago, the battery went flat(Through fault of my own), when a machanic came out he hooked up a charger, 2 seconds later once the charger was on he started the engine up and it was fine. Shouldn't it work the same with my 600 if the battery is flat and not dead?

The mechanic was using a thing called a start-charger. Basically a trickle charger that can switch to being a big sod off power supply when you ask it to.

If you paid less than £100 quid for your charger, you have a trickle charger and it won't make the slightest difference if you try to start the bike with it connected up Smile
