Shamelessly stolen from MCN.

BMW's 2008 new models have emerged before the bikes are officially launched next week with the first pictures of the 2008 BMW F800GS, the 2008 BMW G450X, the 2008 BMW R1200GS and 2008 BMW R1200GS Adventure, plus the 2008 BMW F650GS

Don't be fooled by the name of the 2008 BMW F650GS, as the cheaper motorcycle actually uses another version of the 800cc parallel twin from the F800.

In addition to the new F650GS, the firm has revamped the R1200GS and R1200GS Adventure, and revealed the production version of the new 450cc enduro motorcycle, the G450X.

i like the 800.

i think the 1200's are too big and a bit silly, and the 650 slightly underpwoered compared to IL4 bikes

so i think the 800 is a nice in between

The finish on the 650 is just around a Suzuki Bandit or GS500. After 1 winter or so, it looks about 3 years old.

See above - the 650 is actually an 800 now.

the 1200 might look massive, but when you're riding it its very agile and flickable, and the low down grunt is pretty impressive, although I still prefer the triple engine. Its also not really all that heavy, in fact its a fair bit lighter than my Tiger.

Agree!. The difference between 650 and 1200 was big. Looks nice size and weight.

In other words you like the G450X because it looks like every other dirt bike on the market and you don't like the others as they look different. Wink

The 800GS looks fantastic to me. Enough power to have some fun (unlike the old f650) and at the same time it'd be up to some off roading as well as having a ~200 mile tank range.

Some more info:

2008 BMW F800GS Revealed at Milan
11/6/2007
By Ken Hutchison

Short adventure-touring aficionados of the world, rejoice in the glory of BMW's latest offering: The 2008 F800GS. Based on the same Parallel Twin that powers the user-friendly F800S and ST models released last year, the F800GS has all the ingredients to be a hit. The rest of the GS line-up was not forgotten either, as a revised R1200GS and GS-Adventure is in queue too. And for the moto-heads among us, let's not forget about the 2008 BMW G450X motocross machine either… All four off-road capable designs made their debuts at the EICMA Milan Bike Show.
F800GS
The big news in this episode of As the Motorcycle World Turns is the much anticipated arrival of the F800GS. Finally, a go-anywhere GS that doesn't require a long inseam or a Herculean physique to man-handle it off-road. BMW claims 392 lbs without fuel, which equates to somewhere in the neighborhood of 440 lbs with all fluids and a full tank of gas. A trellis frame is mated to an inverted fork and standard two-sided swingarm with chain final drive. Combined with wire spoke wheels and dual-purpose tires, the new F800GS chassis should make it easy for riders stepping up to this bike to feel comfortable and familiar right away.

Anyone who has ridden a Boxer-powered GS knows it's a little different than the more standard Parallel Twin in the new F800. With a claimed 85 horsepower and 61 lb-ft of torque on tap, the new GS should have enough power to get where it needs to go while the 4.2-gallon fuel tank, located beneath the seat in the same fashion as the F800S/ST, should be enough to make sure it can handle the adventure part of the equation. Fuel economy on the S and ST models is pretty impressive, so as long as this bike is in that same ballpark, it should have a decent 200+ mile range.

Expect a comfortable seat and rider-friendly ergonomics courtesy of its wide, flat footpegs, high bars combined with a tall windscreen and bodywork that extends out to cover up the radiator and provide some semblance of protection from the elements. An assortment of BMW amenities includes ABS and a 400-watt alternator capable of supporting an assortment of accessories, which should make the touring side of the equation livable too.

The little brother of the R1200GS is scheduled to be released this spring

Milan Show: BMW officially releases new F800GS adventure motorcycle

New bikes

06 November 2007 13:03

BMW today revealed the new F800GS for the first time at the Milan show in Italy.

While the other F800 models use an alloy frame, the GS gets a tubular steel chassis designed to cope with the stresses of off-road use, with a repositioned engine – mounted almost vertically where the F800S and ST’s are angled at 30 degrees forward – new front and rear suspension and a chain, rather than belt, drive.
Peak power remains the same as other F800 models at 85bhp – as much as the old R1150GS could muster – torque is fractionally down from 63 to 61ftlb.

BMW has even gone as far as making performance claims for the new bike, with a 0-62mph time of 4.1 seconds and a top speed of over 125mph.

Twin 300mm brake discs at the front, gripped by twin-piston sliding calipers, plus a 265mm rear disc and 1-pot caliper, and optional ABS at both ends, deal with the braking.

Overall, the bike weighs 178kg dry, or 207kg ready-to-ride, making it surprisingly light for a big trailie.

Initially, two colour options will be offered; yellow/black and metallic grey.
Prices will be announced nearer the bike’s on-sale date, expected to be early 2008, but should be between £6000 and £7000

There are also a few vids of the bike here:

Normally I'd never even consider a new bike but this sounds perilously close to being my ideal set of wheels.

The tiger's a good 20kg heavier though, I'd have thought. Also, I happen to think the beamer looks fantastic. And I'm only 20 years old. Wtf's wrong with me?

That 800 has some crazy headlights but still looks the bees knees.

I was also trying to work out why the 650 looks strange. It seems a bit too low.

Yes to the dirtbike bit, but no to the different bit. They looks very "BMW" doesn't make them good looking though. Wink

6 to 7 grand according to the article up there ^. They'd probably keep their value pretty well though. And it is a lot of bike.

Argh.

Repeat to self: "New bikes are a waste of money, new bikes are a waste of money..."

Indeed, looks like a lot of bike for the money.

With my Gixxer looking like it's going to be a write-off I may hold off buying a replacement... Confused
