zxr400 winter project

righteo lads and ladies! im not going to kid anyone, its not a big project, the bikes mint anyway, just afew bits and bobs im doing to it over winter,

this is how i bought it

so far ive just started to stubby and debaffle the micron exhuast can,

The bikes looking awsome mate !! but thats the smallest winter project iv ever seen lol.

Tell me ... what do u use to polish those hangers up like that ?

i said its not huge lol, stubbying that can is proveing to be no small matter though, micron REALLY didnt went me to take that baffle out lol i used autosol on a polishing map to get the rearsets up like that, dont much fancy doing it by hand

Nope you would have biceps like mountains if you were to do that by hand m8 lol .... seriously nice bike tho m8 Thumbs Up

The trick for a good finish is patience, not brawn. If Autosol doesn't work (like in the top yoke photo), you need something a little more abrasive.

Should a yoke be all bling bling in the sun, or does it reflect back into your eyes when riding?

Mines due for a clean as a little grotty in places and with the fairings off I'd be in a better position to have a fiddle with the small jobs that are still outstanding.

With the polishes, should you go from an abrasive to not so abrasive to polish to get a nice result?

Yep, those final grades, if you're aiming for a mirrored look should be hardly abrasive at all (like a super fine wet and dry, softest polishing mop or Belgom Alu, depending on what you're using).

You don't need to have a mirrored finish if you want to clean something up though. I've aimed for a brushed aly look for most parts on my VFR - literally at the stage when the metal's clean and corrosion free, but unpolished. Doesn't look too bad, as long as you keep the brushing in line - similar to following the grain in wood.

I have more than enough metal on the 7R thats on show, some ally some cast pieces so getting everything mirrored would be a pain in the proverbial but to have a nice overall shininess to them would be just the ticket.
