Tonight I planned to ride my mate's CBR400 (that I'm 'looking after' - only had it stolen once so far ) 20 miles to store it for winter.

It's been stood for a couple of months with only 1 proper run out and a couple of starts. However I took it to pass it's MOT yesterday, rode across town and back just fine.

Get 2 miles along the ring road and it dies.

Felt like a fuel issue, well whatever it wasn't going anywhere fast!! After a couple of vain restart attempts I conserved the battery, well aware that being sat on the side of the A1237, in pitch darkness, with no lights, would be a bit pants.

Thankfully, I had my mobile phone and a legend of a mate (cheers Gav!) to come rescue me. We took turns pushing it, the other kerb-crawling in his car, all the way home.

It's surprisingly exhausting pushing the fucker!!

Not one copper wondered what I was doing, my lid and gear now in the passenger seat. Slightly worrying. A few nice people offered help along the way, one a biker offering me juice

A typical 'me' situation, created by my own laziness in not running it regularly Ya live n learn, eh!?

Gonna start with the plugs (Gav thinks they might be oiled) then move onto the carbs. Anyone have any other theories?

Any one have any better tales of breakdowns and enforced bike-pushing exercise?

Run out of fuel on the Senda a couple of times, once a local cop (whom since I've got to know a bit) was driving his car towing some big tourer thing (not sure what it was at all!) and offered to syphon the petrol out of it as he had just sold it! By this time though, I had pushed the bike 2miles and was 100m away from the petrol station!

I remember the left hand fairing on the RS50 once ripped off at some fair speeds and I ended up riding it home one handed with a hand down on the fairing keeping it in place!

Someone I know with a dodgy VFR ( ) once lost her fairing on the ring road and rode home balancing all the pieces on her tank!!! Proper fuckin hardcore!

I was worried about losing my footing on the gravely verge as I pushed it. Some joker had left a banana skin right in my path

Ariel - engine, wossat then? Is that the hot thing in the middle? I have a nail file and a pink screwdriver, will they be sufficient for such 'repairs'?

I once pushed a velocette five miles. I had worked out that it was a fuel problem so I stripped the carb twice but could not get it to go. Next day I found I had an empty tank.

pushed the FZR again tonite to tesco as i ran out in the middle of either home or tesco so thought fuck it tesco it is then it ran out a mile away from tesco, lol. s'all good though, hate pushing it more than a mile.
