They "lost" a load of peoples motorcycle entitlements. Then they insisted that unless people had a certified copy of their old licence, they would have to do their test again.
I heaqrd an anecdotal report of a senior motorcycle policeman who had to re-take his test, as did a couple of office-holders in the Institute of Advanced Motorists.
Before you send your driving licence to ANYONE, make sure you have a certified copy of it. Do this by taking a photocopy of all parts of your licence (on one page if you can) then get someone like a vicar or a doctor to endorse it with "I certify that this copy is a true likeness of the original.", sign it, date it and put their address and position. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. I didnt even take a copy of mine. I just paid the extra for a replacement, and told them I'd lost mine, but while they were at it, could they make the relevant changes.
I thought the £19 or whatever it was was worth the risk, as I had a trackday coming up, and didn't fancy faffing about with photocopies

Hi
As mentioned the DVLA make a habit of loosing people licence entitlements and also very rarely admit their common mistakes.
When did they send the licence back? Get onto them immediatly in the hope that they haven't thrown the old one away yet.
Failing that can he remember the date and the test centre where he took his test and is it still standing?
All the best
