Oregon Scientific ATC-2000 Helmet camera, or others ?

Any one have any experience with these ? Are they any good ? whats the quality like for you tube videos and use on dvd's ?
Price seems really good, if they are good quality that is.
+ they take AA battery's so no needing to buy really expensive camera specific ones .
Also water resistant ?



If they are crap can any suggest a good helmet camera for under £150.

I don't mind ones were the camera is separate from the recorder , ie in a bag round your waist.

The quality is not fantastic but it's alright. If I have time I'll make a short vid with mine tommorrow on the way to work. For the price it's definately worth it if you just want to make videos for yourself or to share with mates.

They'll easily survive in heavy rain, even without the additional o-ring (which isn't included).

I would buy one again (just because they're so cheap). Anything more is overkill unless you're planning to make DVDs.

I've got one, pretty good but they don't like vibrations. They're great for sticking it to your head or something but if you put it on the bike you'll need a lot of padding. I found if I sat it ontop of the bike you get a horrible wavy effect on the video, yet if you hang it from a crash bung you don't get any wavy-ness. Also, stick something over the microphone hole to stop getting a lot of wind noise. They also stop recording after 20 minutes so don't expect to do hours of un-interrupted video footage without having to hit the record button again. Good for the money though

I want it for recording trials , mounted to our helmets ( mates want to use it as well as me) , it needs to be able to take some abuse to.

Yea , I had a search and you seem to think that it's best to use a digilife camcorder, unfortunately this is impractical for me.

How much will the cameras they use on there lids on long way down cost ? something like that would be ideal ,if it would be that good quality I would be willing to spend up to £250.

I'm quite aware of what trials is.

Doing green lanes you also go through rivers, over rocks and fallen trees.
Maybe not in quite the same manner, but I expect if anything when doing trials the rider takes less of a battering, as you are generally planning for an obstacle rather than sitting back and hoping you don't get thrown off.
In either discipline, the rider is acting as secondary suspension, generally with the rider's head being the most 'cushioned' part.

It’s definitely worth considering.
As I’ve said, the picture quality is a lot better, it weighs the same and similar ones are probably available now for a lot less.
The built in screen also means that you can have a look at the footage before you get home as well as checking the alignment, etc.

It shouldn’t be as hardy, but if you bash the ATC I doubt it’s going to do too well either.

So if one did manage to get one of these lovely camcorders i.e. a ATC2000 or a Digilife Camcorder or a Mustek DV4000.

Is that all I would need to record and then take it home to d/l the videos to the computer?

For the 4kam camera I got it needs a recorder with av input to record onto (like the camcorders mentioned above which can be found on ebay).
Did get a Goodmans GPDR with mine but returned it as it kept turning itself on and off after a week of having it. Also with a 128 (or 256)mb sd card the recording time was really pants. Had about a 5 minutes recording time on it.
Do plan to get a cheap camcorder to record onto for the summer.
