its not really an eco motor though is it? , even with the reduced weight and drag it only gives 55mpg,

though the 179n/m torque @ 6000RPM seems to be Busa territory.

Hi

The Oekmobile has been around years. First saw pics of them in the late 80s. There is a tale of the maker of them using some Swiss law to appeal against a government decision on them (possibly to do with helmets) on their national TV.

This is just a bit of a redesign and rebranding exercise.

Very aerodynamic and very good top speeds, but heavy so the acceleration isn't that good.

Also some article in one bike magazine with the writer having one in the UK for a while on test. And getting grilled by the police who claimed something about it being illegal for a UK licenced driver / rider to drive / rider a non UK registered vehicle in the UK.

Also pics about a decade ago of one being done by a speed camera on the A5 near Cannock, with the police trying to figure out what it was.

Hi

Sad git time. Just been into the loft and dug out a magazine article on it. January 1988 edition of Motorcycle International.

First Oekomobile was completed in June 1982, using a BMW R100 engine. The late 80s ones where production was being talked about weighed 600kg fully fueled and had an 88" wheelbase (~2.25m). Top speed was mentioned as an easy 160mph with 0-60 taking 7 seconds (this is using the old 8V BMW K100 engine, so about 80hp).

Bit on the legal problems mentions major problems with the Swiss bureaucracy who couldn't decide if it was a car or a bike for about 5 years. Eventually appealed to the members of the Swiss parliament saying that petty bureaucrats were blocking his right to develop new ideas.

Are you talking about the "Egli" vehicles Keith? That's the only barking mad swiss builder I can think of.

The Quasar bikes are great, there are a few home brew specials around as well. Saw a conversion using a Z1300 motor a little while back. Sadly another of the original ones bit the dust last year. Fuel pump developed a leak and it went up in flames
