Not a speed camera van, but shows the depths they are prepared to sink to.

I have full support of the ANPR van's, at least they target "real" criminals who think that they can drive without tax and insurance etc. The van was parked like that so it would not be too visible as all the lowlife would do is simply drive away from it if it was marked and they would avoid being caught. The Sun are over reacting again!

Maybe like the van that was parked down the raod from me.

And the eight or so police that were standing around at the bottom of my street, the eight the other side of the van, the various crs around and the people manning the van etc. While they couldn't stop me for no tax.. one of the people in the cars noticed my clocks were slightly loose, so I had a police bike pull up outside my place as I was getting off.
Checked I had tax, then 4 lackies came along who took all my details asked to see my licence (avoided a 7 day wonder because I had it in my house) then checked up to make sure I had no CCJs etc on me. After about 10-15mins I was allowed to go about my business.

To me it seems more like a way to avoid doing real police work and hope they can up their stats for the month with random stops.

Yeh thats a bit out of order but if used correctly ANPR is a really good tool. If your bike got nicked and it was reprted stolen and it just so happened to ride past an ANPR van with its original plate on and the police stopped it and recovered it you must surely be happy with that? Now speed cameras and "safety" cameras piss me off because they are 100% aimed at making money.

Now if some one had just stolen my bike (and presuming they're riding it, and it's not in the back of a van) ... are they likely to stop for the police? Are the police likely to continue a high speed persuit towards Reading Town centre?

What really gets me is how Reading Police complain they are constantly short staffed Confused.

So how many cops does it take to do that Monkeyboy? And they were just looking for excuses to pull people over and try and do them for everything they could Rolling Eyes

It takes one cop to be in/ with the van, and say one police bike and one police car to stop people if needed. And I doubt that if it was stolen they'd be stopping!

Reading is very understaffed which is why many are working 12 - 14 hour shifts, and any pursuit will be dealt with by Traffic out of Three Mile Cross and have nothing to do with divisional work at Reading, so any high speed pursuit towards the town centre would be dealt with by Traffic not Division, and many high speed pursuits do go towards the town centre particularly down the Wokingham and Caversham Roads.

Reading also has to cover parts of Woodley, Winnersh, Pangbourne, Sonning, Caversham Park, Caversham Heights, Lower Caversham, Shinfield, Whitley Wood, 3MX, and the outer regions of E division, so with only about 15 to a shift, yes they are understaffed.

In the Council yard. Take the road from junction 11 that leads up to the Shinfield Road, and take a left into Whitley Wood Lane and it leads straight into the Traffic base, or Echo Tango to give it its proper call sign. Wink
