I just wondered how often folks replace their earplugs.

I don't often use them but replace them every journey when I do.

I use every set twice. Journey out and my return.

But I'm planning to get some reusable ones at the NEC show. Maybe these.....

I have a big box of 3M earplugs -

https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220171364409

As well as the bike I use them nearly every night as I am a light sleeper and can hear cats farting three streets away. Wash them with sanitising hand wash and they last ages.

I've got some good quality ones that look like chrismas trees when you cut a cross section and i like how effective they are compared to the foam ones. Even though they have a box for them, i'm still reluctant in wearing a pair for more than a week. The ones in polythene bags for 99pence - use them once then out the go. Can't sterilise them or anything afterwards and i don't want to get an ear infection

I had a feeling i caught an ear infection when i had a blister/acne/swelling just above my lobe, so i attributed it down to the ear plugs. Mind you, how many of you change your earphones when you listen to music, since i'm sure it traps similar amount of dirt and bacteria in them? (i thought the lump was due to me playing excessively loud music when recording my guitar - but it seems not since i use headphones)

Well, i'm going to sterilise them in boiling water and give them a good cleaning because it'll seem such a waste on good earplugs.

I use them once then wash them. Use them once more then bin them.

I have a box of 250 pairs at home, it's been there all year and it's still nearly full. Shocked . I think it's enchanted.

Same here though if they're still clean after the return journey I keep them for those 5 minute runs where I think I need a pair. I also mark one of them so I know which ear each one came out of, as I'd hate to transfer an infection or whatever to the other ear, and if they come out dirty I bin them straight away.

Jeez, you guys ARE clean aren't you!

I use mine until I lose one of them - or notice that they are becoming less effective.

Probably 2weeks - month, riding around 3-4 times per week.

Never had a problem yet, but then I am a hardy soul.

Hey,

I'm still on my set from a month ago! There starting to loose effectiveness now so they'll soon be replaced.

I use foamies. The christmas tree shaped ones always blocked my ears with wax Sick

Cheers,
Shaun.

If you suck them for an hour or so and then dry them on the radiator they can last for years.

Them little green ones wash perfectly, put them in a sock with the washing, they come back perfect.

I got a free pair of moulded ones through the NHS (They are actually swimming plugs) But they seem to do the job fine for £0.00!

And no I didn't trick the NHS and said I was a swimmer. Thumbs Up

Another vote for Earsoft FX, only I get mine from here.

I also tend to use them twice then bin ‘em.

On the subject of sucking them – I find the earplugs enormously easier to insert if I give em a quick lick first… I tend to only do this when they’re new out the bag… mostly.. Wink Sick

I get "Max Lite" ear plugs. Disposable green ones, were in Ride magazine and won their comparison. Others I've tried hurt my ears but these are made for people with smaller ear canals and they fit much better.

Yep i agree too. Ear Soft FX are the best. I've tried loads and loads of ear plugs but these are far the most superior.

Shit I just whack em in my pocket and pull em out next time I need them.

I get quite a few wears out of a pair and usually toss them once they have started to go a nice shade of grey.
That or the little neck string thingy pulls out of one.

I got 100 off ebay and am still a tight ass with em.

I swear I'll have a few pair left when I die.

and no ya can't have em. I'm takin em with me Middle Finger
