Shit holes
I was in London last night, on a job. We were booked into a hotel in Belgrave road, about 10 mins walk from Big Ben, Westminster and all that.
The rooms were £130 per night and i had a shower and sink and a TV, oh and a double bed.
No kettle, No sky, No mini bar, No bath and the door was loose on its hinges !!
It was more like a youth hostel to be honest. |

'tis true, most UK hotels are way overpriced and way under quality. But as long as people continue to put up with them it won't change. ____________________ Sod falling in love, I wanna fall in chocolate. |

With me being a man slag I stay in a few hotels around here in the north west and ive always found them to be half decent, even the holiday inn express ones havent been bad.
The De Vere Whites hotel at the reebok stadium in Bolton is excellent and only £87 a night for a double room ____________________ Past: '96 Thundercat, '02 ZX636R (A1P), '58 KTM 690 SM LC4 Current: '06 ZX636R (C6F)

God, you must have gotten crap hotels!
I staying in a 3 star hotel in South London a few years ago and that cost £60 and that was fantastic. Sky, Mini Bar, and even porn!
I recommend when your staying in a city, stay in a Premier Inn, there usually plentiful, cheap enough and they have a money back guarantee too if its a dive! |

Spent 9 months living in hotels a few years back. Travel Inns are good value for money and seem to have consistent standards across the country. Best hotel I think I stayed in was the Marriott Forest of Arden, couldn't fault it. Worst hotel I think I stayed in was some dump in Croydon opposite a Jury's Inn. Awful awful rooms with just a single bed and no restaurant in the evening. Very poor, just like croydon itself |

Having contracted around the UK for a couple of years I too learnt the hard way, however I would recommend in order the following:
Express by Holiday Inn
Premier Travel Inn
Holiday Inn
Ibis
Travel Lodge
and where possible, if I'm feeling flush, a room/suite at Crowne Plaza
If I'm slumming it or paying for it myself I'll use Hotel Formule 1
Sorry to say I steer clear of independant hotels, "family" run places, and especially anything part of the Best Western group, they are always shite!
The hotel chains I've listed are clean, functional, professional, predictable, and affordable.
Village Hotels are alright aswell.
EDIT: Britannia Hotels are also cack.
Good specific hotels are Great Expectations - Reading and The Dragon - Swansea though neither are brilliant. ____________________ My claim to fame: Austin Vince nicked my pen... |

I wouldn't stay in a Travelodge for any money any more. Work has put me up in 2 Travelodges in the past year, one in Aberdeen one in Dundee. Both were awful, in particular the Aberdeen one where the room had a really unpleasant smell in it which could not be removed even with lots of air freshener!

Mind you, apparently one of the more "august" conference delegates was found wandering round the corridors drunkenly naked in the middle of the night, and took to abusing the staff who tried to shepherd him back into his room. I think I heard a rumour that he might also have pissed in the vases in the hallway ____________________ Not nearly as interesting in real life. |

Paid £70 for a 'Double room' bath,tv ect - £70 due to it being right by Gunwarlf. Got there, small single room - double bed that squeaked black and white TV and a small bathroom that was very much out dated.
2 nights we paid for
Best Me and the OH had was a travellodge room. Many times we have stayed there and pretty much enjoyed it. Simple, and not badly priced. A full week once when she was moving around. Only thing I could say if lack of TV channels. |

Possible the best hotel I have stayed in was in Vietnam...The New World Hotel.
https://www.newworldvietnam.com/aboutus.htm
Presidential suite with use of executive lounge, free drinks at happy hour and breakfast and tea cooked by a world class chef at a cost of £100 per night. I reckon in London you would have been £400 - £500 a night |

Can't believe how cheap hotels abroad are... We're looking at a nice one for about £25 per night half board with minibar, etc...
Whereas I stayed in a Travelodge for £40 last weekend that stank of stale fags so bad I wanted to throw up...
The City Barbican in London was a nice hotel that I stayed in when going to Live8 |
