My driving instructor is officially the worlds most useless knobjockey.

Do you fail your car test if you let someone flash you out at a junction or whatever.

he says you don't but I've also been told by my friends you do... and my instructor has also told me it's o.k. to let the wheel slide through your hands so I'm not too quick to trust him tbh.

PLLLLEASE halp meh...

my tests on Tuesday Shocked Shocked Shocked

Someone flashing their lights at you is officially to make you aware of their prescence, and do not let the wheel slip through your hands, you are not in complete control.

Get another instructor Wink

Flashing your lights is like banging the horn, it is a warning.
Do not flash people out.

yes you are not supposed to flash someone out with your lights and also do NOT come out if you have been flashed unless told to do so by either the examiner or tester.

as for letting the wheel slip through your hands after turning a corner say. its perfectly ok as long as its controlled or slow in other words.

I would. but he was the only one with BSM (who're shite and I would reccomend staying away from, all they want is your money and are more than happy to lie to get it) who covers my area...

that and my test is like... 2 days away, so it's all good...

while I'm bashing my instructor, he left me for a fortnight right after my first lesson and BSM never told me he was going, so I had to guess where he fecking was.

You are best not slipping the wheel. I never do and I have been driving since cars were in black and white. A bad habit to get into.

O.K so, I shouldn't let my steering wheel slide really, and I shouldn't let people flash me out.

Basically, I should just ignore my instructor then? Very Happy

I can do that. Thanks a lot you guys Smile I've been bricking this test for weeks.

Not want to knock your confidence, but BSM instructors are predominantly trainees, not full instructors. On the front windscreen of the vehicle he should display his DSA badge, which will tell you what grade of instructor he is. Most experienced fully qualified guys are independant or work for independant schools.

Just concentrate and I am sure you will be fine, you obviously have a head on your shoulders if you recognised that some of his advice was wrong Thumbs Up

Best advice I heard was that the examiner is not looking for a perfect driver just someone who is safe.

The rule is "Make progress when you can.".

Three potential scenarios from being flashed out:

1) You are flashed out and go when it isn't safe causing the oncoming vehicle to brake or alter course. Results in serious fault. Fail.

2) You are flashed out, the car flashing you has clearly slowed and there is a big enough gap to go without causing the other car to further alter its course. You go. Correct thing to do, you are making progress when you can. Best to accelerate a bit harder than usual as you pull out to show you are aware that other cars are approaching the junction.

3) You are flashed out, the car flashing you has clearly slowed and there is a big enough gap to go without causing the other car to further alter its course. You stay where you are. Results in minor fault for hesitation, another two of those and you fail.

If you do get flashed out and the examiner questions you about it, say that the driver also waved you out with a flick of his hand so you were absolutely sure that his intention was to let you out.

I was told this before my bike test.

An examiner won't tell you when to go,

If you are flashed and it looks safe go.

If it is going badly take a deep breath and ask your examiner if he would like to feel your tits

Yes. As has been said flashing of headlights is for the other driver to alert you top there presence.

And you wont fail if it is safe for you to pull out when they do so.
