Finished work from a long day, was a little late out but that didnt really bother me. On my journey home i have to travel through a train crossing which is fairly busy. I usually have to stop here, and end up filtering to the front of the que.

Same old, I did what I do each time I go to and from work, get to the front then zoom through. This time was a little different, as i crossed over the crossing all well and fine, I then turned right at a roundabout, to see that all the cars had backed up. They were still stationary even though the gates were up, but this could because the roundabout was blocking the que. As a came off of the roundabout, the other side of the road was full as far as I could see as the road branched off around the corner. I pass through a set of traffic lights and the immediately see a car, oncoming on my side of the road!

Think. Brake, front wheel skids out, bike falls to the left, bounces around, I fall off and the bike slides down the road.

I'm lying on the ground, realise im ok, and get up. the car that was once infront of me, is now behind me, just passing though the traffic lights i had come through. I ran after him, and thankfully he pulled over.

Speed wasnt over 30. But damage is as follows:

LHS fairing
lower fairing
top fairing
bar end
LHS indicator
tank

He's admitted liability so pay out should be quite quick. Any chance this damage would write off a 1k Suzuki GS500 1995?

The fairing will most likely have to be welded ect, any idea on the cost of this?

Luckily no damage to me apart from a few bruises!

Nick

well at least you are ok , you did still call the cops right and take a million and one photos? (people have a habit of changing their minds after admitting liability) ,

plastic welds (only plastic welds) from my fairing repair man are about £20 for about 1ft worth of plastic welding.

Yep once they have rung their ins and have been told you didn't say that and you have not witnesses to prove it....

If you did not call the cops out, at least go and report it and get yourself checked out.

Odds on his story will change. Sick

what about your gear.... add the helmet rrp to the clain, like anything elts suck as leathers, textiles, gloves, boots etc.

If they write it off you could always buy it back.

But, to repair everything mentioned with new parts, they will prbably write it off anyway.

Cops were not called, and i remember something about 24hrs to report an incident? I dont have any witness's, but the other guy doesnt know that. I suppose i'm putting trust into the guy to be honest. Not sure how he could worm his way out of being on the wrong side of the road though, as it's quite clear what he was intending to do (i saw another car do it, as i stood taking photos at the scene). I have legal protection through bennetts, so they will be taking to bike away to be accessed and repaired.

Helmet, belstaff trousers, boots and gloves with be taken into consideration.

Also looking at the bike again this morning:

Bent LHS foot rest mount
Scraped LHS foot rest
Cracked clocks casing
Bent lower LHS fairing mount

you have 24hs to report , lest you have a reasonable explaination , though I reported me being hit by a car (twas a hit n run) 3 days later , to cover myself after a Sadie incident ,

that cop is a fairly good mate though , YMMV however

So true.

Also if you did not hit his car, he can quite easily say that you falling off was your own fault.
Your word against his, and that is how his ins co will play it. Now if you hit him thats a diffrent story, so long as you have proof of where he was on the road at the time.

I didnt hit him, just fell off in a way of avoiding hitting him!

Seems like it would of been better if i had hit him head on!

Bike is still 100% rideable, so if in the end i dont get anything out of it, it isnt the end of the world. Will still try and fight it though.

yep, spoke to him to get his insurance details, and full name. He even gave me his insurances helpline number. I know things could turn around, but he seemed very genuine during the incident and has been since. I think he is probably more pleased that i didnt report him for dangerous driving, as he could of come away with alot more than just losing a NCB.

Will his insurance company not try to get out of it since you have no witnesses?

I think if he has a think about it, he might think better of the situation :S

Just ask out of curiosity!

Yeah its not a case of the guy trying to worm his way out of it but his insurance company trying to save themselves a payout by disputing liability.

Either get in touch with the copshop or 'find' a witness Thumbs Up

Didn't need to 'find' a witness, and didn't get the police involved.

So far I have recieved £250 for my kit, with another £50 on the way.

Plus £775 for the bike, with me retaining ownership.

All in all, i only need to fund £125 to buy the mint 02 GSX600F my dads friend is selling. Also by selling to GS I can use it to pay for the insurance. Sorted.

Where not all unlucky
Thumbs Up
