Right basically i made a thread a couple of weeks ago about how i need to change my life around.

I needed to stop smoking

Cut down on Fizzy Drinks

Cut down on crap, chocolate etc

And get a job

Now im still job hunting but i am actually getting somewhere with that and should have something starting on monday.

However im getting major mood swings and craving just to either have a bottle of coke or a cig.

Sounds like it might be easier if you do things one by one, rather than trying to change everything at once.

Boots stores launched something around this time last year called Change One Thing. According to the adverts i saw, if you have several goals you're more likely to not achieve any of them if you try to do them all at once. If you focus all of your attention and will power on each one in turn, then you stand a better chance of getting to your goals.

Figure out which one you want to achieve first and go for it! Personally i would start with the easier/ smaller ones, and work my way up.

I've never smoked, but i think giving up fizzy drinks would be easier to start with? Sure you'll still experience the withdrawal and get cranky from time to time, but with that out the way you can feel positive when you move onto giving up the fags Thumbs Up

Good luck with the job starting on Monday too Very Happy

Fizzy drinks ive been fine with for the last couple of weeks, so trying to give that up first as you say is going to be easier.

Although i did get two bottles of fizz last night, i begged me mum to get me one Laughing Crying or Very sad

Now smoking is the hard one really, i mostly smoke when im bored at work, and also the majority of my mates smoke, so the temptation is really great. I know i can stop tho

I smoked from the age of 16- 18 and then stopped up untill October 2006, but i started because it was a good stress relief from splitting up with the Ex at the time.

And cheers about the job, its only warehouse and Stock controlling, but the money and hours suit, so i can finally get my DAS under way in January Very Happy

Fizzy drinks isn't an addiction.

If you can't stay away from something as mundane as soda based drinks, you really are lazier than I first imagined.

Fizzy drinks can be an addiction IMO!! I want to give em up and have tried numerous times but just can't seem to stay off them!! Glad I don't smoke cos I think i'd well struggle to give it up Laughing

I'll second the fizzy drink addiction. I don't know if it's the caffeine in them or the copious amounts of sugar, but they are definately "addictive".

I've tried switching to "Zero" (Fanta Zero and the like) I'm going to see if they make a difference.

Why not "treat" yourself everytime you conquer one of your addictions? Might be something to work towards as well as giving up then? Thumbs Up

Eeverytime I crave a fizzy drink I just think - It's eventually gonna weaken my bones and make me blind. Usually end up buying a bottle of water Laughing

Try maybe drinking fizzy water instead.
Pellegrino's very nice (I think I'm addicted to that myself) ... although a Soda stream might be a cheaper alternative Neutral but at least you can add flavours if you really have a craving for flavoured fizz.

I think you'll find it is, a bit like some people can get hooked on drinking Coffee also.

And im trying to drink stuff like Vimto and Robinsons fruit juice, which has been working, but i just got a major craving last night just to have a bottle of coke Laughing

Im gonna take it step by step and it should be fine.

Mind over matter, i've cut out crisps completley and don't drink the fizzy stuff, now drink water, cut down dramatically on the junk food, hardly on the booze as well as taking to exercise.

Yes i still get cravings every now and again for a bit o the fizzy....with crips but just be strict with yourself, treat yourself in other ways.

Cold turkey on the drinks and drink more water, you'l adapt in a few weeks and wont be as bothered anymore

The caffiene and sugar make them addictive, try tonic water that should put you off fizzy drinks Laughing

other than that stop being a big girl Mr. Green

If it's the caffeine you are craving, have a cup of tea instead. Sure it still has the caffeine buy you're getting loads of antioxidants and stuff too.

I think you're trying to do to much at once though. Try the fags first, they are probably the hardest and most harmful. If you can do them, fizzy drinks will be a doddle.

well i have two cigs left, and ive said to myself once these have gone thats it no more, trying to get my mates to not smoke near me also and if i ask for one they should tell me to do one. That way im forced to go without any.

i know i can quit tho, plus with the smoking ban it will be alot easier, as alot of my smoking is at the pub.

Even asked my boss to say no your not having a cig, so that will work Laughing

I'm trying to stop smoking too. I'm maybe doing it a bit differently. There is everything I need to make a roll-up and a lighter in the drawer of my desk (literally three feet away from me as I type this).

I haven't chucked them out because then I'd be not smoking because I don't have any tobacco. Currently I'm not smoking because I've decided to stop, there is tobacco there if I want it.

It's a psychology thing.
