Ok going on my way to college today up the main road car infront suddenly stops, my mate on his ped infront manages just to stop intime but swerves to the left so he didnt go into the back of the car. I however hit the front brake on top of a white line, wheel locked, and all i remember then is sliding along into him.

Luckily he managed to stay on his bike, but i snapped off the back number plate and L plate. He managed to carry on to college in time, and then home later on, riding without a number plate however.

I was sat on the side of the road for 30 min with my nicely smashed ped, and not anyone stopped, not even the copper that went passed!

Do people have an arrogance to peds thinking that everyone who rides them are absolute chavs, because I'm really not?

And has anyone else ever had this problem with the slide n lock on white lines?

Jon

Your motoring days haven't been good to you so far. Is this the second 'ped you've crashed? If I remember rightly wasn't the last time in the rain aswell.

Happened to me, but the bike started to skid towards the inside lane whilst filtering past a lorry. Scary to say the least.

Even just changing lanes this morning you could feel the rear wheel skipping about when crossing a white line.

I was told...

'Only a fool breaks the 2 second rule'

But the guy on my CBT had a better one...

'only a cunt hits the car in front'

I must be a cunt then Embarassed

Painted road surfaces and water = slippy.
Dont ride on them, dont over take if it means riding on them, dont filter if it means riding on them.

As for stereotypes, that is just the way it is.
Moped riders = young 16 year olds
BMW riders = arrogant and pompous
Sports bike rider = either mid 20`s lunatic, or 40 year old mid life crisis
Cruiser rider - very hairy with leather hat under the helmet, tatoos

Why were you sat on your own? Did your mate ride off and leave ya, sounded like a perfectly good excuse to miss a morning of college to me. Thumbs Up

What is the damage to the ped?

And FFS slow down and keep your distance.
It wasnt the lines fault, you made the choice to ride on it. Smile

Take it as a learning experiance, no one got hurt, just a bit of dented ped and pride.
Could have been a kid that stepped out in front of you between cars

Bit unlucky mate, live and learn though?

I guess you going to have to pay for your mates bike to be fixed up too?

Don't just look at the vehicle in front of you when you're riding.

Just try aiming for the black stuff. Everything else isn't too bike grippy.

Yeah, happened to me yesterday at a roundabout. Really sucked, especially when headlamp, indicator, clutch lever and some other bit and bobs are fecked up! Crying or Very sad

Mark it down as experience and learn from it. Thats what I've done and I know better now when in the rain / panic braking / roundabout approaches.
Remember, it could have been worse!

I don't mind the white lines when filtering, wether it's wet or dry. Initially I kept thinking I'd fall off so I just started riding on them as much as possible to get used to the feeling. I found the bike will skip a little left and right but if I didn't do anything to right it, the bike would sort itself out anyway and keep going in a straight line.

Braking harshly on white lines is a big no-no though for me, I'd rather pull a wheeler and jump the car in front that's slammed its brakes on instead!! (If I could Razz )

Agreed, it feels a little disturbing, and if you try to fight it, you might make things worse... but if you're relaxed, it's no big deal.

Aye, get off the line *then* brake. If you're on the line down the middle whilst filtering, you've only gotta move an inch or two either side before hitting the brakes... in fact, you're going to be riding one side or the other of the line anyway, just don't brake as you're crossing it!

I find braking progressively (with a bit of front a back, but deffo not much) over white lines isnt too bad, and to back this up, did 54 miles yesterday in the pouring rain - I could hardly see out my helmet Crying or Very sad .

I decided (when the weather started getting shitty) to "feel out" the white lines like beanfeast , on my 6, so Id know (hopefully, lmao) how to deal with them if something like this happened.

I find accelerating over them (not mad, just gentle progression in this weather) is FAR more disconcerting then braking on them Thumbs Down

But JonPod91, i think the fact you hit into your mate (bit dubious that, he didnt even stay with you? Bit of a tit Confused ) shows that you were probs a bit too close to begin with, spesh in the wet mate.

Just increase your distance, and (if you can) avoid travelling directly behind the vehicle infront - I know this aint always possible, but most of the time it is Thumbs Up

Hope the ped fixes okay pal

Something like this happened to me, on the way to college also. Just coming up the road and theres a children crossing for a school, it's a 40 limit and no lollipop-man/woman. Kid ran out in front of my mate he slammed his brake on and recently theres been diesel every single day all the way to college down the centre of the road in blobs every 4-5 metres. Both hit diesel and back was fish-tailing....then i felt my handlebars twisting so re-applied brakes and just stopped in time with the bike up aswell.

His mum never even said sorry she crossed as if nothing had happened, i was swearing like mad inside my helmet. Stupid bint keep control of your kid.
