Right, I'm about to start a new job working as a Honda salesman over here in New Zealand, so any tips on that are greatly appreciated. I've been told by my new boss that he was looking to drum up more business and was welcoming any ideas, so how would it be possible to arrange a rideout with having a shop available to use as a start base?

I guess sending out e-mails would be the best bet but any other suggestions are welcome.

I personally wouldnt advise organising a mass rideout. As if it's open to the public you are not aware of everyones riding skill's or tendancy's to drive like idiots. I think your best bit would be to have some sort of open day. Organise a barbie and maybe a stunting show. Something that is fairly exciting but doesnt involve them in any way in which they can fuck it up.

A free bbq would be a good idea, get some chairs sorted out, have it on a sunday all day people can come before or after thier ride.

I'd agree with Fenton - whether or not he's been on a rideout, it's that it's a company organising it that is the issue here - all sorts of liability problems if someone crashes and claims you were riding too fast.

BBQ is standard 'sales' fare.
How about a free/cheap dyno day with a raffle and some other bits and pieces on - M&P used to do quite well out of that sort of thing.

Thumbs Up to the dyno day, plus some sort of activity later on like a BBQ/hog roast and a decent band playing.

The bbq and live music is a top idea, but a store organised rideout, to meet the team and new people is a great way to make new customer's, and is used by a couple of big stores in South Wales. People seem to turn out in their droves when these are on Thumbs Up

Not my sorta thing mind Wink

You could say that, but Bridge Motorcycles in Exeter quite often had a rideout on a Sunday.

HOWEVER, I still wouldn't buy a bike from them, their rides were slow as hell, usually ended up taking my own route over Dartmoor with some mates.

They were a Honda dealership as well.

The way they got their rideouts known was joining up on southwestbikers.com

As mentioned, whatever you’re doing, you’ll need to get the word out there…
So find any appropriate motorbike forums, and try and mention it without spamming, local bike clubs other bike places not in competition with you, racing clubs (road, off-road, rallies) etc.

but then the SWB splitered into 3 groups , and then one of those groups split again, the Exeter bunch of SWB are well known to be keyboard warriors,

Had advertised ride-outs at Honda Salisbury near to me. Never got round to going on one so can't say how successful they were.
BBQ sounds a good idea though.

As your trying to get people in to buy bikes though a rideout may not be that successful in getting people to part with their money for a a new bike. Could always link it in with them test riding one I suppose.

Local dealerships around here sometimes have advertised in the paper test ride days with a prize draw of some sort so that could be worth a thought.

Group rideouts with unknown people on them are a potential minefield.

There was a case of a bike club down South who had a crasher on their annual open run. Said crasher then proceeded to sue the club office holders for compensation for their injuries.

What's worse, it was a club member who crashed, not some random member of the public, but it easily could have been.

Our club no longer holds open runs, too many people try to keep up then crash.

When you take a random selection of bikers numbering in high double figures, there will be some really fast riders and there will be some riders who think they are really fast. Putting both together on the same bit of road results in the latter going home in a helicopter.

This story is based on true events.

Thumbs Up I might be an asstard, but at least i added something constructive to the thread Thumbs Up. Has that country rotted your brain?

Another negative of organising a store ride out would be the need for insurance, because you can guarentee that if someone comes off there would be lawsuits flying everywhere.

And yeah, i have been on a fair few rideouts with the northern lot.

Couldn't you just have everyone sign their lives away with a disclaimer before they ride?

Your ideas are far too complex.
Just get some prostitutes in on day rate and blow the guys if they buy a bike.
Sorted.
