A quick one
| Quote: | atheism = lack of morality and xianity and xians are more moral people |
Not true see Stink's post
| Quote: |
Atheists have murdered more people than organised religion, this is actually true , Stalin/Mao having murdered around 250million people,
can't remember the counter for this be along shortly
|
Millions and millions of people died in Russia and China under communist governments — and those governments were both secular and atheistic.
So weren't all of those people killed because of atheism — even in the name of atheism and secularism? No, that conclusion does not follow. Atheism itself isn't a principle, cause, philosophy, or belief system which people fight, die, or kill for. Being by an atheist is no more being killed in the name of atheism than being killed by a tall person is being killed in the name of tallness. Communists Don't Kill in the Name of Atheism...
Hitler was an atheist
Mein Kampft
"Hence today I believe that I am acting in accordance with the will of the Almighty Creator: by defending myself against the Jew, I am fighting for the work of the Lord."
can be argued either way that he was a xian or an atheist ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die. The goal isn't to live forever, the goal is to create something that will. In the end, your life will flash before your eyes. Make sure it is worth watching.

Ignorant In short they think that if I knew more about Christianity, I'd surely convert. This is why they keep trying to tell me about it even though I often know more than them about the subject than they do.
Indecisive They seem to be under the mistaken impression that I state I am an atheist because I can't decide what I believe in. And for some reason that I need convincing.
Lazy I am obviously an atheist because I don't have the get up and go to find out about the lords great works. It's ok, they'll take them to me.
Immoral Without the church and scriptures to tell me how to live my life, I am obviously incapable of knowing right from wrong or deciding on my own moral code. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. I quite enjoy these sorts of bouts , often they try the watch maker theory , then pascal's gamble, then freewill theory etc ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die. I mock them. Ever been to a church service? It's all I can do not to laugh out loud. Especially catholic ones. I like to pretend I have a remote control with buttons marked 'kneel', 'stand', 'sit', 'talk'.
Anyone read the Viz magazine? There is a comic strip in the latest one titled 'Supergod'. Very well written. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”

I'm sorry but I disagree that no one is forced to be religious.
Its brainwashing, pure and simple. Christian preachers specifically never allow for the possibility there isn't a god. They don't let it enter peoples heads.
When people are under such a mass delusion, I feel it is my duty to at the very least get them to question their own faith. If they question it and then still believe, then fine. But so many people I see just blindly follow the traditions of the religion without looking for personal answers.
And as for rastafarians? Well, anyone who believes the King of Egypt is the messiah can't be all that can they? <joke>
There are lots of fundamentalist Christians/Muslims/etc who get more passionate about these talks than anyone else. They cannot just sit back and be content with themselves, but feel they have to mock and try and show up people who may have differing views to themselves. Its a very patronising attitude that suggests they think they know more.
The reason I feel justified in saying that there isn't a god in these discussions is because I believe a lot of people agree with me, but they are too afraid of the religious groups and PC stuff that they don't say anything.
Let me just go back to a word you just used. Patronising.
I'm sorry, but I've never ever seen anyone as patronising as Christian preachers. They believe they are right no matter what. Fine, if thats what they believe, but there is no need to foist the 'message' off onto anyone else.
I say what I think on this subject when it comes up on the forum. I don't go ramming it down peoples throats in Reading town centre of a saturday. Which many 'lay preachers' choose to do.
I know there isn't a god, and I would prefer it if more people acknowledged it. But the main thing that really gets my goat about it, is the power that the religious institutions have. For example, a student in the US was expelled from his college because he wore a T shirt which said "Mohammad is a false prophet, Jesus is the only true light" or something like that.
He didn't appeal on freedom of speech basis... he appealed on freedom of religion, and he got a massive compensation payout from the college! Now tell me if you think that is right?
Similarly, somewhere in the southern US there is a church which believes that a certain hallucinogenic can bring you closer to God. This is an illegal drug, and yet they are allowed to get away with it under freedom of religion!
Another story from the book "The God Delusion" by Richard Dawkins was of a man who protested against a preacher who claimed that doctors are unable to cure cancers, and he has the power to heal. A cancer patient later died because she did not seek treatment from medical professionals, but from this preacher.
The man who protested got arrested and thrown in jail for claiming god didn't exist! In the modern USA! Not in medieval europe!
I just think that the Religious institutions strangle hold on people must end, and they must just exist to provide the necessary means for people to worship if they want to, not to force people to believe, or have any influence over people at all, especially political.
Religious groups have too much power. Over people, and over politics. It should stop. ____________________ British beauty: Triumph Street Triple R; Loony stroker: KR1S; Track fun: GSXR750 L1; Commuter Missile: GSX-S1000F; Cheap project: CBR900RR FireBlade

Also wind them up by mentioning some of the fun and frolics the great book of moral standing condones. Slash and burn, genocide, sodomy, rampant sexism, spite.
Also when people bitch that you cant slate something without knowing everything, i just mention you dont need a degree in leprechology to know they are mythical.
Ooooh oooh, good pictures

Great forum on there, its all pro-atheism because as mad as it sounds the yanks often treat atheists like we treat pedos. ____________________ China traffic/travel bike vid - When I make a sweeping statement, please add the word 'statistically' in to the sentence before you bitch...

Lol. They're mostly americans.
Dawkins knows back in england people are pretty free to be atheist, but in america its a big thing. No one in government will admit to being anything but religious.
Fuck, Bush actually got support for saying god talked to him and told him to carpet bomb iraq...
Yeh, nice. ____________________ China traffic/travel bike vid - When I make a sweeping statement, please add the word 'statistically' in to the sentence before you bitch...

Any religion: "You are all special, all individuals. Now follow our rules and all must worship on the day of the sabbath"
I have nothing against anyone who peacefully believes in whatever they want to believe in. I object to mindless preaching and I object to people killing in the name of their God.
Personally I am an atheist. Luckily none of my family be they religious or not have ever tried to force me to believe in anything other than what I want. I don't need religion because I don't need to use religion as a crutch to support myself in whatever situation I'm presented with.
What I do believe is that it's perfectly possible to be moral without adhering to a religious code stating how to be moral. ____________________ TARMAC - Automotive blog *UPDATED 26/3/09 - Abandoned fuel stations to go electric? ~ Buy my eBay stuff!
