Anyone cover many miles on Friday when it was below zero?

Well I did 280 miles.

Now don't get me wrong I commute in all weathers but its about 4.5 miles to my work.

I went to the NEC on the preview day then back later on.

Gosh how bitterly cold was I, I had 2 jumpers on and a T-shirt, but I was in leathers not textiles. Comming back it was about 3 hours non stop, I literally filted all the way from Birmingham to Manchester, after that it cleared up.

Its weird I could feel my body starting to shut down, reaction times getting worser and worser. The ground was white over the tops coming in to Yorskhire and all I could see was my breath in my visor.

I was also having to be exceedingly careful because of the ice, not leaning too much, easy on the throttle.

It must have taken 3 hours to warm up afterwards.

Think next time i'll go in the car.

pff, you big ninny... i was wearing summer gloves, my new leather GSXR jacket that arrived in the post, a t shirt under that, some ripped jeans, no scarf...

Did about 50 miles, all on motorway Hands were bloody freezing, two pairs of gloves on Neck/chin cold as well, will need to get something to sort that. Otherwise a thermal undersuit off ebay - £25 delivered sorted me out with the cold.

Can anyone recommend something (other than heated grips, tried them don't get on with 'em) for hands? I have shovels for hands (biggest size of gloves going usually) which don't help.

Did a similar journey friday night, Bolton to past Birmingham setting off at 6pm friday night, was relatively okay filtering through 40 miles of rush hour traffic but when it opened up the 70 miles or so down the M6/M5 at decent speed took it's toll on my fingers, think i got to the initial stages of frostbite, fingers were completely numb, had gone blue and were starting to bleed from the fingernails.

Was wearing tshirt, hoody and lined winter textile jacket, motogp thermal socks under my leather trousers and summer gloves with windproof glove liners in em.

Was okay apart from my fingers, you could see my breath coming out of the air holes in my lid in big plumes!!

Did the journey back today, was a fair bit warmer during the day but it pissed it down but managed the 120 mile trip in just under 90 minutes including a petrol stop

Just got insurance at midnight Thursday-Friday, so off to college I went, taking the long route which turned a 9mile journey into a 32 mile journey (And still faster than the bus).

Then on finishing college I went home had some lunch, then stayed out 'til dark. That was from about 1-5, then went home and had a delicious steak and kidney pudding. Then off again this time to a pub (via a petrol station for the second time in the day) where I found it is uninteresting drinking lemonade when everyone else is getting steadily drunker, but then some of my friends came down who can drive, and I am ashamed to say I joined in their "cruisin'" Although the C1 and the 206 were annoyingly slow and took their sweet-ass time getting to NSL. After riding for another 2 hours ('til about 01:00) came home, and found the trip meter at a hefty 346 miles. And I'm *just* starting to not corner like a pussy

I didn't think it was that cold Friday, I am sure we have had colder this past week?

I managed my 8 mile to commute ok, nice and warm except for the end of the finger tips. Need to get round to looking at fixing the heated grips.

I was wearing
Oxtar Infinity boots,
Halvarssons Dry Level gloves
Rukka ArmaX Jacket with just a thin jumper under it
Rukka ArmaX trousers (not enough room to wear them over normal trousers nothing so was wearing underneath them)
Some cheap neck gaiter. Best bit of kit I brought for a £10 makes a huge difference as you don't get wind blowing down your neck into your jacket or helmet.

Mmm. I started using the car last week I only hope the old girl will get through one more winter, coz frankly, fuck that. I prefer to leave earlier, keep warm and listen to Derek and Clive Cd's. I say warm, but I still have my window open most of the time and keep my coat on. The heat from car heaters is just WEIRD.

Fucking freezing on the way home on Friday night, bloke on an enduro looking bike razzed past, guessing at 120ish. I must be getting old because I thought, "Cooor, I bet his fingers aint half cold".

I just got back today from 1850 miles through europe including the French alps (Chambrey) at about -2.

Mind you, I was behind a very big fairing with all the winter gear and heated everything cause I'm a wus when it comes to feeling cold!

45 minute and i couldnt hack it anymore,textile jacket,jeans,summer gloves. Was freezing. My hands generally felt like ice blocks,and it started to impeed my breaking and general driving. Cold as f*ck.

wussies all of you , I went down to Exeter in January once on a naked NTV wearing my red Belstaff jacket (which lets a ton of air in) , and red summer gloves , and rain proof pants.

My latest one is faringless and by jimmeny its noticeable! only fitted the grips today and am yet to try them, merely in preparation for the inevitable decline in to sibera like conditions.

I went to the NEC with SWMBO in December 1990 on my FZR600 and it was sleeting and snowing all the way home (it was the weekend when people were snowed in at the NEC and had to stop the night there) - 140 miles in the days before heated grips and decent textiles in wet, freezing conditions were not fun. SWMBO was not happy either and I think we had mild hypothermia by the time we reached home

10 years later I did the same journey in dry, but freezing conditions on an R850R with a touring screen, heated grips, GS handguards and decent textiles and it was a doddle.

Forecast's looking good for Tuesday, so it'll be an even easier journey to this years show

Havent felt the cold yet in my Clover jacket, but given up on bike gloves in favor of ski gloves with microfleece and goretex inners cheap as chips!
